Givi Top Boxes

What size top box would you recommend?
Im fed up with the Oxford soft tail pack, its got enough room but bungeeing on and off takes ages and the security is crap. The Ace has seperate seats so Im going to mount a top box on the pillion perch. I was looking at the E36 but would you consider that enough room for a couple of weeks clothes? BTW I dont carry a pillion!!!!

:dunno:

We use a Givi Maxia 52litre topbox... Of course I have Jan to account for with at least 4 changes of clothing per day, and she must NEVER wear the same thing twice:eek:...

In honest truth... We can do a long weekend with just the topbox & baglux alpha bag, but for any longer run & we have a full givi set up with the 52 topbox & a apir of 41 litre panniers & the baglux alpha... Total 164 litres of luggage...

Well, ya do have to have space for nick-nacks

Best of luck mate..

I use exactly the same set up as Rolfy and my wife get every thing including 4 pairs of shoes and a large make up kit in it plus you have added security when you stop and want to leave the bike for a bite to eat:lol:

Im lucky in that my Jan isnt interested in the bike at all so I only have to consider myself. Ive got my Baglux tank bag as well. With that and the Oxford I manage to pack enough kit for a two week holiday no problem. The Maxia 52 looks feckin HUGE!!!! The Kappa kit looks as good to me and a bit cheaper. Any comments?

BTW it always amuses me that when we go on holiday Jan manages to pack 20kgs into her suitcase and the first words out of her mouth on the first evening of the holiday... "Ive got nothing to wear"... so what the feck was in the suitcase then????????

Kappa is only the budget version of Givi... Nowt wrong with their kit at all, I used to use it, but find the Givi a bit more solid...The Maxia is huge, but we are used to having estate car storage, and tend to have my Jans enormous handbag & various stuff in it

I would say for just you, a 36 or 42/44litre box would do just fine...If ness, you could always add a small rack to the top, as a lot of bird owners do for Tent or sleeping bag....Then you would have a very versatile unit...

As for the suitcase contents... I refer you to my original statment...Jans the world over must be made in the same mould...LOL 20kg... that would cover just about 2 handbags & 4 pairs of shoes & the make up bag:bang:

Best o' luck mate..

We use a Givi 52 when we're off somewhere and I use a 36 if I'm carting stuff in and out of work, so would say the 42/44 would be just about right.

How are you going to fix it to the pillion seat? Bungee it?

Why not consider using a roll bag? Hein Gericke do their own ones but apparently Ortlieb are the best.

Waterproof, two bungees to secure, job done.

The Ace has seperate seats so Im going to acquire a spare rear and bolt the Givi/Kappa base right through the seat base. I have already changed the Ace to a touring setup with Fazer stye bars, JMV fairing and Corbin. By mounting the hard luggage on the pillion seat will mean that the weight is shifted forwards instead of being cantilevered behind the rear axle so it shouldnt upset the handling. I have been using an Oxford tail pack but hate pissing about with the bungees. I always fit my Rentec rack anyway to allow for waterproofs etc. Roll bags... arghhhh been there done that... the tail pack is better than a roll anyway.

Givi V46 topbox and two 40L Kappa sideboxes are enough for us, plenty of space.

We use 3x45L Givis, and we can take the tent, clothes, full size airbed, sleeping bags, miniature cooker, kettle, mugs and Tea. It all fits in the boxes with the exception of the poles, which we strap to the top plate on the topbox. However, on my little 600 I do use 36L side boxes instead of the 45s.

Givi E52 maxia. Yes its big, but so is a Blackbird and it doesn't look out of place.

TaxiRED?

I am so special.
Just bought a 52L with toprack on off ebay for 100 notes, and its fkin huge, so thats the missus shoes sorted for next year.

So if you wanna take a kitchen sink away go for the Maxi, plus the 2x 45 litres, thats the set-up i have at the moment.
