If there was something that would get me out and protesting on the street it would be this sort of thing.

Since when did the Police act as the legal custodians of free speech and what is deemed to be "inappropriate"..?
Yes, I understand that this has been foisted on them by government, but it's a very slippery slope to be on, with "Police State" at the bottom of it.

This is the PC world in all its glory, its nothing less than fascism dressed up as the acceptable behaviour we are told to we have to practice. Since when was it a crime to hate something? It’s perfectly normal human behaviour. Do we not have an innate right to intensely dislike something and give voice to it? It’s an exercise in controlling thought processes and ultimately actions. ( Where have we seen that before and had to overcome it?). People who have strong opinions are now labelled as some form of extremist when it’s precisely those who rant against and would repress or control free speech are the real extremists that we should resist with every fibre of our being.
The quote “ I may not agree with your opinion but I shall defend to the death your right to say it” has never been so pertinent.

I have read the letter and the article and suspect there is a lot more to this than reported in that paragon of accurate reporting The Daily Mail; there is a fairly large hint that an element of the ‘problem’ was that the gent in question had sought out and communicated with the complainant at their home address. And that is something that I can see as being a problem; a line being crossed. It’s similar to a client contacting me at home rather than via ‘work’ when I was working. It’s similar to the morons who vandalised Ed Woodward’s house last week following the European super league episode, lines being crossed.

While the term 'freedom of speech' is often quoted in the UK it really has not been the case with in living memory, and indeed for hundreds of years
I think I became aware of how little free speech we have when the editor of a very well known satirical ( Private Eye ) magazine was jailed
We all have freedom of speech, providing you either toe the line, are and active member of BLM or similar, or a spotty snotnosed KAKFA who is at uni, has a safe place, and cries when any one dares criticise them

Without some form of moderation you have anarchy.

The difficulty is deciding who decides what is acceptable. We have communicated over some of the stuff on here that I think should have been removed and you think otherwise...which is fine as it's a matter of opinion.

Agreed Andrew, however if the mechanism of moderation, IE law and order, becomes oppressive and is used as a means of perpetuating and increasing its own power over what people can think and say society will find itself on a very slippery slope towards totalitarianism and all the incumbent trials and tribulations that go along with extracting itself from which it let itself slip into
The government and its agents have no mandate to be our conscience, that must be left to be that that is deemed mutually acceptable behaviour by the majority of society.

Using the internet & social media in particular as an example, I have been a member of a few sites dedicated to different topics, some of these have been heavily moderated by jumped up little nobodies, one of them (a Leeds united forum) was having a discussion about ownership, I happened to point out that in 1992 Sheikh Mohammed Ali Maktoum wanted to buy Leeds United but the owners despite looking to sell were Jews & would not sell to an Arab, I was banned for racist comments, another RN site banned me because I called an admin a pathetic prick, both these sites folded within a couple of years, Bird is sensibly moderated & considering some of the banter there have been very few fall outs over the years, Bird is successful because of the freedom of speech

As you may have noticed I (coughs) occasionally say what I think so wouldn't be surprised if i fall foul of this boll**ks at some point in the future

True freedom of speech is nothing but an urban myth that is perpetuated by those who decide what is acceptable and those without the brain to see past the bullshit
There is no need to be sexist, racist or whatever "ist" the snowflakes come up with next but speaking out when you believe something is wrong with a well reasoned argument or honest opinion is not and should never be against the law ..... the problem is nobody told that to plod or the monkey's running the country

OH FFS. Since when has writing a perfectly reasonable, politely worded letter been offensive...? Old fashioned maybe, but hardly offensive....other than the fact that having a opposing opinion is offensive to some in this world.

She was happy to gob off because SHE was offended and he replied in a civilised manner. Most NORMAL people would have either ignored it or replied in kind.
But no....she had to go bleating to the police.

The modern day problem is that if you are a white heterosexual male, at some point whatever you say you are going to offend someone. Example a good friend of mine is half caste, oops no he’s mixed race, er hang about I meant dual heritage, his mother was a Negro, sorry she was coloured, silly me, she was black or is that person of colour?.

I am reminded of a couple of years back there was a works night out, towards the end of the night one of the female Officers said to a Senior Officer “see you tomorrow” he replied “yeah, look forward to it” one of the other females said “you never say that to me” he replied “because I don’t like you” the next day at work she reported him, luckily the management told her to grow up.

TBH, I don't think he had any say in it at all, however virtuous he thinks he is?
He has no experience or similarity regarding rearing a child with down syndrome (or at least he hasn't mentioned it.)
This women obviously has the experience and has (i think) taken his remarks as a personal jibe possibly reflecting on her own choices in life?
His remark 'appalling change in their lives' is a very old fashioned view, considering the advances and development within the special needs fraturnity.
I would waver he has pissed off a few professional peeps 'Mencap' for a start with his carefree and uneducated remarks.
Just saying loike.

So he's not allowed an opinion...? Since when...? She expressed hers freely enough.

If we (wife and I) knew in good time that we were going to have a Down's Syndrome child then we would have aborted it.
Our personal opinion (if we're allowed) is that we don't see the point in raising a Down's Syndrome child, given the choice.

Some folk will see that as selfish and harsh. I really couldn't give a f*ck what they think. Personal choice and personal opinion.
