Mrs johnboy and I were round at one of the neighbours the other day, he has rather a lot of cars, mach 1 mustang, 911, 944, Supra, Alfa spider, Boxster just to name a few. Anyhoo conversation comes around to classic cars, me and my neighbour start having a classic car nerd off, I says, always wanted something classic but opportunity never came up when I've had spare cash etc.

A couple of days later, neighbour comes over and says, until the other day I never knew you had an interest, he then says would I like the use of a 1994 Mercedes R129 500SL, not fantastic condition but laid up for a few years 1-1.5k should get it roadworthy and it's mine to use for as long as I want, so for the price of a couple of weekend classic car hires I've got the sole use 24/7. Can anyone foresee any issues? Obviously I'll have it insured on a classic policy with a guaranteed value that more than covers the actual value should the worst happen, now that I'm no longer working Mrs JB and I have spare time to enjoy an open top classic ish car.

Fill your boots!!
An acquaintance had one about fifteen years ago, the only issues he had ( other than the comedy trade in value Mercedes offered!) were with the suspension (it would not go up and down properly) which was an expensive fix and the ragtop got stuck - cheap relay replacement sorted that but it took some tracking down, obviously a tad on the thirsty side but who cares….

If the 944 is any good and he wants to give that away let me know…one of my favourites!

When I said issues I was rather alluding to the long term borrowing not actual physical faults on the car (y)

I suppose my only concern would be who is responsible if something goes wrong while in your custody.

Sounds like a good friend!!

Model??
I wanted an SLK but ended up with TT.
Saw a CLK a while back, nice car.
No real interest in big cars though.

Exactly what I’ve and in that colour. Keep thinking I’ll change it for a newer model but it gos so well, and starts steers and stops so well that I keep changing my mind. Considering I’ll have to pay between 40-50k to get anything near it I think its worth keeping.
