FPR quick test

Please could somebody advise? Can I do a quick test of my Fuel Pressure Regulator ('99 FI) to see at least that the diaphragm is working? With the unit off the fuel rail I thought by creating some negative pressure with a large syringe on the suction side, I should then be able to blow up the return pipe back through the regulator. Release the pressure and the air flow should be cut.
Feel free to say that this is a ridiculous idea or even a pointless excercise!http://www.bikersoracle.com/blackbird/forum/images/smilies/dunno.gif

At the risk of getting shot down in flames if I am wrong, I do believe Howard said he had a new one for sale a while back if yours turns out to be faulty.@tu*

Thanks Dickiebird, I'll definitely bear that one in mind - every time I ask the nice man at Fowlers for a price, he asks me if I'm sitting down!

I thought I'd give an update re. my fuel pressure regulator in that I couldn't mimic an engine running situation so thought it best just to try it before flinging over the nearest hedge. Guess what?...and this is after replacing the fuel pump that was completely solid after the bike has been standing for about eight years (new one from Honda @ ?650.00 verses what looked like a new one off ebay @ ?75.00), and having the injectors cleaned...pressed the button and bingo, away she went and with no misfires. The Blackbird is singing again. I've never ridden one of these before so I can't wait to give it a proper go after an MOT this week. It seems one helluva bike...I'm not really a Honda person but can definitely appreciate the way it's put together - real quality.

1999 Blackbird now on the road

Finally MOT'd the bike and wow what a bike it is, but I guess you all know that already. Very addictive engine and for a big girl handles extremely well - confidence inspiring. This one has only done 9100 miles and I'm only the second owner. It still feels like a newish bike even though it's 17 years old. I'm really pleased that I bought it.
