FOWLERS foul up!!!!

RHINO

Answering to nobody
Well it goes like this.......

Once upon a time an order was placed through FOWLERS motorcycles for 1x nearside brake caliper for a 2001 model CBR11xx.. The order was placed around 2nd June 2004 along with other major components.
3 days later the first item arrives in a box bearing the HONDA logo,, 4 days after another box arrives bearing the HONDA logo, "brilliant" i think to myself but alas still no caliper.
A telephone call is made via a 3rd party ,who incidentally was paying for the goods, and 3rd party was told "Yes it's here waiting to be sent out!"
3rd party says "That caliper is needed urgently as previously stated,,please hurry up".
The above conversation took place on 10th JUNE 2004.....

In the meantime i am booked on the ferry for ASSEN, hotels booked, EMMA all primed and ready for the trip but still NO sign of the caliper.
Alternative arrangements were then made for me to sort the bike as FOWLERS  had NOT yet despatched it with 2 days before the ferry.

I manage to get to ASSEN and have a damn good time only to find on my return home that FOWLERS :loo: had now sent the caliper and it was sat in my hallway at home in a nice neat little HONDA logo box...

I immediately contact the 'person' (ANDY BALL) from FOULUP's who went on to say "sorry, you can't return it as its been longer than 24hrs since despatch".
I then contact HONDA UK and speak to a very helpfull chap 'ELLIOTT' who assures me that there is NO problem returning the item.
I then send the item back to FOWLERS who inturn contact the 3rd party purchaser claiming the caliper is in the wrong box (WTF)...
The caliper was sent straight back in the box it was supplied in,,the one with the HONDA logo, all idid was wrap the box in brown paper and send it back recorded delivery..
FOWLERS then REFUSED to accept it saying i'd re boxed it and the box it was in was for a set of indicators...

Anyway......phone calls were exchanged over days and FOWLERS would not budge, i would not budge when all of a sudden $%3un
There at my door is a courier with a parcel for ME... I signed for it, opened it and it was an exhaust for a 125cc scooter from FOWLERS!

I re contact FOWLERS and speak with :m 'ANDY BALL' and asked him if his despatch staff or he infact knows what they are doing.
I asked if a mistake could have occured whereby my caliper was put in the wrong box or infact sent to the wrong address prior to me receiving it?
"NO" was the reply," we are a professional outlet and that cannot happen"
Well how the fook did i end up with an exhaust for a 125 scooter belonging to an innocent purchaser in ESSEX????????
Simple.................'YOUR CRAP!!!!'
Another call to HUK and they themselves contacted FOWLERS on my behalf and explain a little customer service etiquette.
Within 2 hrs FOWLERS had found a HONDA logo box with a bar code relating to a caliper and sent it back to HUK for my refund.. AMAZING how their faultless service and despatch management don't make mistakes and the exhaust i have must be a virtual one that i have'nt just stubbed my toe on :B

It say's it in the name Fowlers(Foul up)!!!!!!

Fowlers in Northampton went bust!! They sold Triumphs as well as Honda's.
Doesn't that say it all????.Like a TIT! i bought a new Triumph from them before i found out that the best bike on the road is a Blackbird.

God i am so ashamed to say that i was once a Triumph owner.

So... Fowlers.. yet another main Honda dealer to be avoided.. The list is growing lads and lass's

Mind you Rhino, you did REALLY well to get anywhere with HUK.. Up until now they have been even worse than the dealers !!

I feel I must stick up for a Honda dealer over this way. P & D Autos in Wakefield. I have never bought a bike off them, but I had dealings with them as the second owner of a CB750 supplied by them.

I took it in for the rear wheel bearing replacing, asked for a courtesy bike, maybe just a scooter or something to get me home and then back to the shop when the job was done - a round trip of 10 miles or so.

They had a look round the yard and offered me a.....

BRAND NEW 1300 PAN EUROPEAN:eek:

After a short briefing on the controls off I went.

100 miles later it went back. I was nearly tempted, I can tell you.
But it was a 'Bird I really wanted, so hung on a while and resisted temptation.

So lets get this straight Steve.. you reckon that a dealer is good if they lend you a posh bike ?
You do not mention how well they did the job or how much they charged for the job ..
A set of rear wheel bearings.. max of ?10 or ?12.. an hours labour ( which most places seem to charge at ?30.. So the job should have max'd at ?42(ish) quid...
Was the bike wiped clean of any finger marks.. was it road tested.. was the rear wheel alligned properly ??
These are the things that are important and need to be looked at before a dealer can be recomended ! R#?

What

the dealer should realy do the work they claim to have done!!!!
Just a quick one, MOM Micky Oats a Suzuki dealer from whom we purchased our Bandit 1200 & threw in our first service for free & the second at half price on labour or somethink silly.
First went with out a hitch we just droped the bike off & picked it up 2 hours later, But on the second service we got a wee insight into how it's not always what you think.
The usual odds & sods Oil Filter, Oil, Check & adjust + New Air Filter !!!!
Ho well where's the K&N you removed I would like that back as I did not ask you for a new Air Filter & dont want it & Will not be paying for one as this is not on the service.
After much back & forth it could not be found !!! well by now I was making it known that I was lest pleased with the situation, with my bike parked right in front of the shop I removed the airfilter cover.....Guess what I found!!!!!!!
I payed them fook all let them know what a shit service, if serviced at all they supplied & vowed never to return or recommend them ever, so I won't.

Dark Angel

Still kickin' it!
...YEPP !!....

...Ordered new B/B from Wigan Honda..."It'll be here next Monday (5 days later) with the Michelins, hugger and ride height spacer fitted, as requested!" So I paid 4.5k cash deposit and said "See you Monday - you can have my old one (2002Fi) - NO PROBS!" ('Cos it was a good deal as far as I was concerned! :dunno: )...

...Three weeks later (without hugger, ride height spacer - and with the wrong Michelins fitted...) I rode away, swearing to myself the grim promise never to return to Wigan Honda!

Ordered a tank protector (carbon look-alike), hugger (matte black) and fender extender from my local Honda dealer - in MAY 2004. Paid in advance over ?100...PAID IN ADVANCE...

...Guess what...

...I'm STILL WAITING for the TP & for the Hugger...It's AUGUST...

FLIP-SIDE...

Phoned JAWS 'n' said "Gimme"...There was a "mix-up"...but I GOT it...

...Sent payment...There was a "mix-up"...But we sorted it...

...On reflection...I got the BEST service from Mr. J A W Smith...

...Draw yer own conclusions... :dunno:

good looking AND modest
Castle motors, Castleford, bought three bikes from them, got a good deal{Tina got a good deal} on them, Ive had two of them serviced there, but NEVER again, the shop staff I cant fault, service there is exemplary,
the slack way the bike service personnel work is just short of criminal, on my Hornet a deep scratch appeared on"T" swingin arm,"wernt us Mr", on the Bird, hardly a nut or bolt moved for the service, so how did you manage to do this /that or "T"other, no answer no bill payment,
also I met a bloke from Hull/over that way :dunno: that travelled to Sheffield daily, he had just come out of Ca's motors complaining that they had let a plastic bag blow onto the "still hot" exhaust of his BBird, and was now a molten mess over the pipe, I don't know the outcome of that, but I suggested he take it back in for THEM to clean off, :dunno:
it seems to be a matter of "catching" the fitters in a "good" mood, and if your PAYING MONEY they had better be in a bloody good mood for every minute they charge, so to sum up, {at last I hear you all shouting} if you go there, inspect your bike before AND after they've had it, you may be coming away with more/less than you paid for,

Thanks for the comments John.

The bearing was completely mashed and came away leaving the outer race in place. They charged me 2 hours labour saying it took this long because of the need to remove the outer race without damaging the wheel, which they managed successfully. I don't know about the test ride or wheel alignment as I am quite naive in the mechanical department, but the markers on the swingarm were lined up so I assume it was correct. I had no complaints about the cleanliness of the bike as I remember, so all in all I don't think I did too bad so long as I wasn't conned over the removal of the bearing race.

Heres another one for you:

Had the 'Bird serviced at George Wards in Barnsley where I bought it. It was the 12000 miler which included brake fluid change, and an oil and filter change at my request (oil/filter not on service schedule). The bike was returned clean but I don't know if it was test-ridden. Cost of job ?130 including VAT. Would that be about right?

Also, I am considering coming down to you the next time it needs attention and letting you have a damned good look at it. I will contact you nearer the time to make arrangements.

Crewe Honda Centre.

Family owned business, been in Crewe for many years, not huge but big enough. Bought my new blackbird from them, best deal I could find at the time, (and believe me I looked)!!!! Picked her up on day agreed, everything fitted that I had asked for, been for first service, bike was taken straight in and serviced, free coffee while u wait, explanation of what had been done, (not a lot on 1st service but nice touch anyway), no problems, and at this time I would recommend them. They guarantee to have any part required for your Honda ordered and back within at least 48 Hours if its not in stock.

I cannot

slag of the main dealers too much as i haven't had much experience with them but the experience i have had so far has been pretty negative.
Ask 'CHIMES' about HUNTS HONDA!!!!!!!
Ask me about FOWLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brother does most of my mechanical work as he owns his own buisness in STOCKPORT called 'Track & Classics' he is based on Grenville St, Edgely, Stockport (0161 477 7602) :p ..
He is a one man operation and he'll tell it how it is,,very straight to the point.
He has had bikes turn up there supposedly serviced from main dealers and the like and they were worse than prior to service.
Mark specializes in old Italian / British mainly but recently most of his work has involved multi cylinder Jap bikes.
He doesn't advertise anywhere but works 6 days to manage his work.
Having said that, my intention is to visit either JAWS or 1200Pete for my 18,000 mile checkup otherwise Mark and i will end up scrapping over something + i can have a few days away.

Servicing.

I will probly only be using main dealers for the servicing while the warranty is on, once that goes I will generally go for someone like Rhino's brother, did this on my VFR 800, one man and his van mechanic, comes to your house etc, etc, excellent service and lw costings. :yo:

does this mean there are now reliable/trustworthy repairers/service engineers up norf. I bought my XX with 5800 miles on a T plate. The dealer Mot'd & Serviced it but said it was in such good nick it didn't need anything doing. not quite sure if that ment he actually did a pdi. anyway stamped service book for 6000 miles, apart from the first service there are no other stamps. I changed oil and filter at 8000 miles and now have done 10300 miles. don't know that much about serviceing but bike seems to run fine. just bought a new filter and oil which i intend to do in the next couple of days. checked fluid levels & brake wear, Do I need to do more at this stage or do i now need to get professional help. if so who can i trust up here Robinsons of rochdale don't have a good reputation, charged me ?238 for a pair of 010s thought that was a bit steep.
