Hi Paul and Trudi,

Lorraine here just a word about the trip to Mugello. Eric mentioned about meeting up in France but we have already worked out our route for the journey there and are probably travelling a bit earlier than you as we catch the ferry on the 26th May. When are you thinking of going to montpellier and the bridge? if you are going after the race on your way home we could ride out there with you, if its ok, and stay overnight near there. We are going to head home on the Monday and will probably take that route. If you plan to visit montpellier as part of your journey into Italy then we are looking forward to meeting up with you on the race weekend anyway and you can point us in the right direction - please!!

Hi Both... Sorry we couldn't arrange to travel to Italy with you when you first booked it but we found we can?t get away till the Thursday anyway and we have had to make plans to go by car as we are calling in at Tossa del Mar to deliver a computer to some friend there, the first night (Thurs 1st) we are staying at Arles and from there going to Prato ( http://tinyurl.com/mhe9e ) (how far is this from you, can we meet for dinner on Saturday or Sunday evening?) and will be going to the practise on Saturday and the race on the Sunday, leaving Prato on Monday for Mandelieu La Napoule ( http://tinyurl.com/oaxzo ) just outside of Cannes, then from there to Lodeve about 125 miles away ( http://www.hotellodeve.com/ ) this hotel is about 25 miles from the bridge, we will stay overnight and go on to Alicante and home from there on the Wednesday morning.
If any of this fits with your plans we would be delighted to see you and we could go together by car to the bridge if you were staying near us, we could communicate by text on the mobiles on practise day if you have one with you.

Wooohooo.. soon be there!!

Hi Paul and Trudi,

We are staying about 30 minutes away from you at a place called Impruneta it is south of Florence in Chianti so no problems with distance we are booked in from 1st to 4th June and our room is above a family run restaurant. We can text or ring you on the Saturday at qualifying and arrange to meet. We are going to spend Friday exploring Florence so will not be going to practice (Eric doesnt know yet!), we are also hoping to visit Pisa maybe on the Sat after qualifying. As we have to catch the ferry on Weds 7th June we will need to ride to Millau on the Monday and then on to Callais on the Tuesday I think this will be a rush but worth it.

Look forward to seeing you both

Hi Lorraine.
We will be arriving in Prato Friday evening teatime-ish, so there is a possibility to meet Friday or Saturday night. Keep us posted with what you are doing for definite as things can change, I'm sure we can meet up somehow sometime which would be great.. even at the track there might be a chance.
Pisa is a fantastic place to visit you will love it there, the ride back on the way home through Riviaras is a lovely too. Its a bloody shame we just miss each other as that would have been a great ending to our GP weekend.
Its quite difficult to go round Genova as its not sign posted to where you think it should be, if you want any more info we can help, having said that, the ride up to Genova from Pisa is one of those roads you just have to do...

Hi Paul and Trudi,

I have changed our hotel because Eric saw some pictures of it on the internet today and didnt like the look of it. I've also booked into the Hermitage Hotel I had looked at it in February and nearly booked it but couldn't make my mind up. I showed the website to Eric and he said 'book it' so we are booked in from 1st to 4th of June and look forward to seeing you.

Not long to go now!!

Sorry to hijack this a little, but we're thinking of trying to 'do' Mugello this year.

Looking for a bit of info if any of you have been before.

I've heard that getting out of the place is supposed to be a nightmare and as this is going to have to be a mad dash back home, how likely are we to be able to cover at least a couple of hundred miles after the meeting ends?

This has also got to be done as cheaply as possible, so any tips on cheap places to stay in the area?

Thinking also that we'll buy 'meadow' tickets rather than grandstand ones, are we going to struggle to get a good viewing spot?

Shouldn't really contemplate going, as money's tight, but it's Mugello and I keep imagining riding to the circuit Sunday morning, the atmosphere, the weather........

Sorry again, but would appreciate any info.

Thanks

Jon

Sorry Jon, but this is our first "Italian Job" so we can't really offer any info.! :dunno: As you can see from the thread, we're already sorted for routes and places to stay, and we got our tickets a few weeks ago for the Ducati stand which, allegedly, has one of the best views of the track. That's as much as we know until we get there. Maybe Paul and Trudi might have something to add - but you'll just have to wait and see....

...Hope you can make it...

...If you do...keep in touch so we can meet up somewhere...! w;;v

No problem, you are welcome in here with us!!

Looking for a bit of info if any of you have been before.

Nope, this is the first time for all of us

I've heard that getting out of the place is supposed to be a nightmare and as this is going to have to be a mad dash back home, how likely are we to be able to cover at least a couple of hundred miles after the meeting ends?

It possibly will be a nightmare but probably no more than any other race meeting, we are going by car (we live in Spain) and DA & Lorraine by bike so I imagine they will be out hours before us.
I think the 200 miles is quite do-able as long as you go after the GP and don?t stay for the last inconsequential race. Worst case senario is that the race ends at 5pm, you get away from the course at 7pm (highly unlikely, you will be away much before then) and you have 200 miles to do which would take you to 9.30 - 10 ish.

This has also got to be done as cheaply as possible, so any tips on cheap places to stay in the area?

At this stage I think you ought to book what you can for the stay in Italy and look to going to the Kyriad, BB or Formula1 hotel chains in France on the way down, they are megga cheap (especially BB & F1), plenty of hot water and clean beds and towels. You can find them close to large towns on the roundabouts leading in. If you want more info I could find the links as it?s best to book beforhand (dead simple and efficient)

Thinking also that we'll buy 'meadow' tickets rather than grandstand ones, are we going to struggle to get a good viewing spot?

I don?t imagine there will be much else left, we bought meadow tickets once for Jerez and it seemed as long as you got there early (and I mean early.. sort of 9.30am) you should be OK

Shouldn't really contemplate going, as money's tight, but it's Mugello and I keep imagining riding to the circuit Sunday morning, the atmosphere, the weather........

Just do it.. don?t get old and have regrets, the two most sad words in the English language are 'if only'.. so money is tight? Economise... make sandwiches, drink water - whatever it takes.. but GO!

Sorry again, but would appreciate any info.

You're more than welcome. might see you there!

Thanks

Gents,

Thanks for all the info, we're going to decide over the weekend just how much we can't afford to go and if not too many bills won't get paid, we'll go for it.

If we do make it, I'll buy the first round, it was water you mentioned?

Thanks again.

Have had to tell Eric everything - we are not going to practice on the Friday I have reserved tickets to go to the Gallery Academia to see MA's 'David' instead. I am sure he will prefer it!! We will probably only have one day to visit Florence so not sure where else to go, have you been? I have also got tickets for the leaning tower of Pisa for the day before. The hotel is quite near the Medici Villa so hope to go there as well.

Jon - The company I got the GP tickets from warned us that it is bedlam getting out after the race, even on a bike, and advised us to stay in our seats and take a bottle of wine with us and wait at least an hour or two before leaving. They take groups there regularly so it is probably accurate.

Not long to go now!!
