I worked today at Pinewood on a movie called 'Flyboys', based on true story during 1st world war, about a bunch of yanks who volonteered as fighter pilots to help the frogs against the krauts, you might like it when it comes out... g0551p

Pernod, or Pastis... or some of the local stuff which is even nicer! No Derek, no visual appearance, was doing dubbing - Aidey don't be so dimissive now, it really looks like a good movie, with great dog fights... done entirely in CGI, and you couldn't tell g0551p

Actually the yanks had several squadrons serving in the first war. Flying French Spad aircraft, Eddie Rickenbacker was on of the top scoring aces. His aircraft had the star spangled top hat going through a ring, to symbolise Uncle Sam throwing his hat into the ring.

Bubba, to put your mind at rest, I know all of this, 1st WW aviation being a bit of a speciality of mine.

The point Im trying to get across, is that I wouldnt trust any film maker to make a convincing portrayal of aviation. Its not that I doubt their competence, Its just that the sky is a very, very big place for the cinema to be able to do it justice.

Alright Frenchie, whats the local stuff then? Willing to give it a go - but where do I get it? Going to Antwerp mid-Dec via Calais -- any clues?

PS I'll watch any aviation film. Better to see any plane on the telly than crappy old eastenders and all the other shite!

well I doubt their competence, :dunno: whatever these "film makers" do they manage to try and "change" history!! :mad:though a "bit" of poetic licence is reasonable, the Yanks being some of the worst offenders, look at who "captured" the Enigma machine early in the second war,!! and the subsequent film depicting Americans capturing it,
saying that Zulu wasn't exactly "to history" but at least it made an "attempt" :dunno:

:bang: :bang: ya got me there!! :bang: the "point" i WAS trying to make was the screen writers & producers taking the piss out of historical facts :dunno:

Your right there Ian. According to the film makers the 2ww started in 1939 but in reality in started in Nov 1918. Discuss
