Sorry Reefer

I missunderstood ya reply - thought ya ment using it to seal the nipple onto the pipe your using to bleed through.So as to secure a good seal while pumping fluid through.
My mistake:beer:

brake mechanic? I don`t think so

Ben, in reply to earlier comments made by a.n other.
It never ceases to amaze me of how many twits there are around, I sure hope I never have to rely on his technical skills, how the fuck he got a job in hydraulics I`ll never know. Would the man who thinks a caliper has no moving parts stand up please, just to let us see what a real prick looks like. These idiots are not only risking their own necks but other peoples as well! Of course what the fuck do we know, we`ve only been dicking around with bikes for years.
ferkin numb nuts!
If u d?nt know what ur doing, leave it to fuck alone,
Excuse me for sounding pissed off, but take it from someone who knows, I nearly got wiped because some twit did not know what he was doing when he was "bleeding" his brakes! I come along for a test ride and it was nearly me bloody last. A very sobering thought next time u buy a used bike, think who may have had it before you!
A very lucky to be here Paddy!

Okay..I appreciate your help, my mechanical knowledge isnt great (as if you hadnt noticed) so try to base stuff around what people say, so when people say conflicting stuff I get a bit concerned.

To put this one down, do I need to buy new brake calipers (or at least second hand ones)?? The bleed screws are new, original honda jobbies, everything looks clean etc...

Does anyone know whether the front calipers from a blade (99) model will fit onto the Bird (dont flame me to death but I have heard it somewhere else).

Thanks

Doh !!!

Don't go runnin' out & buying another set of calipers !!!! Dya have more money than sence ??????
Just get the bike checked out by a good mechanic,better still,stick it on a van and get them to do the job from scratch.
You have to be a complete mental gorilla to bastardize a set of good calipers.

You sure ya not winding us all up:}

Hi Mr Fibble,
have you tried the pressure over time test, you know, pump the lever until pressure, tape brake lever on, return a number of hours later and see if you still have pressure. I cannot believe that your calipers are knackered, please give it a try, If your calipers are knackered I have got a spare rear you can have.
As for blade calipers, I dont know if they will fit, due to the difference in forks, if the distance between the mount holes and the pitch (angle of caliper) is the same, I cannot see why not.
Good luck with the test, let me know how you get on.

If this is true then someone is makin' bags of dosh sellin' de-linking kits when all one has to do is pop down a breakers and strip a blade of its braking system:rolleyes: :rolleyes:
Are ya sure ya not having a wind up with us mate?
Cos if ya are-ya doin' a damn fine job:}

Before You Splash Out........

On new calipers Mr. Flibb ( if indeed you have knackered your's) it may be worth contacting a local engineering workshop to see if they could re-tap the threads in the existing ones

It's got to be worth a try and would cost a whole pile less than new or secondhand calipers !!!!!

Are you SURE you're not on a wind-up ??:}

frank..i mean fibble
maybe someone should be looking at possibly purchasing a travel pass or something along those lines

most peeps start fiddling with mopeds and work there way up
you dont start your first brake bleeding lesson on a 180mph superbike

as the others have said get the bike to a workshop and get it sorted your cleary not competent enough to be fibbling..i mean fiddling with brakes..or mechanics of any sort:t :t :bandit:

Nipple Trouble

Hi guys,

I have never logged on to the forum before but after MrFlibble emailed me I felt it wise to come and look for myself to see the extent of the trouble he was having - I have to say at this point that a fitting service is always offered for any product we manufacture, some choose not to take it, maybe as ?120 is seen as a lot of money for six hours' work.......what is the general thought about this?

Anyhow, it appears on the face of it that he is struggling somewhat with what should normally be a fundamental procedure. in saying that though, it is true that ALL Nissin 3-piston (front) calipers ooze fluid once interfered with. Any of you who have re-bled your systems will know this to be true.

We have de-linked a good number of XXs, X11s, VFRs, STs and Varaderos, including a large number of brand new bikes and without question, every single one oozes fluid through capillary action along the nipple thread. What is completely bizarre though is the fact that Nissin 3-piston rear calipers do not ever leak along either nipple thread, but then, they are of a slightly different design.

It makes no odds whether you replace the nipples with new Honda, new zinc plated or stainless steel ones, they ALL do it. We have come to the conclusion that there is a miniscule mismatch in thread depth between the nipple and the caliper casting.

It is safe, although unsightly, to use PTFE tape but better to use a quality 'bearing fit' or threadlock. Fluid contamination is not an issue as whatever sealant you use does not penetrate the fluid path, as it is sited alond the thread of the nipple, well away from the interference-fit end (the pointy bit!).

If anyone has specific queries on any of the above, please come back to me or I will check here again when I next get the chance.

I hope this has helped at least one person out there!

(By the way, Blade calipers don't fit - unless you fit a Blade front end of course!)

Regards to all!

Hi again!

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I always thought I was a bit too cheap!! (and not just sexually!)

Seriously though, better to offer 'cost effective' labour charges than have customers struggle with something that we know pretty well inside out.

Not all companies want to rob customers you know, some are here to help! :puke:

Regards!
