Quite right, as an ex sparker (RN) I can confirm that the term hangover does originate from Her Maj's finest service. In the old days when ships were made of wood and men were made of steel they had a tradition called splicing the main brace, this meant getting out the grog and having a drink to the King/queen now strangely some sailors did not like the grog so they sold it or gave it to their shipmates, now in those days grog was not the watered down stuff that was served in more recent times, but the full strength blow your brains, kick you in the knackers, and steal your girlfriend stuff. so after a few of these the crewmen would feel a bit squiffy and retire to bed (hammock) as you can imagine several drinks and a swinging hammock do not go well together and anybody who soiled their hammock was put on a charge and severly punished, so they used to lay in their hammock with the upper part of their body leaning over the side in case they wanted to look for huey.
Hence the term hangover.
