Oh I know only too well and to be honest, apart from surgeons, I have little faith in the medical profession.
Aged 40 I was diagnosed with advanced osteoarthritus in both knees and chronic asthma.. Knees turned out to be caused my big muscles above the joint pushing the kneecaps down, and as for asthma !
Ed Zackery. I have little faith in the NHS because I, like a lot of people, have been failed by them so I take what they say with a huge bag of salt. My powers of healing are supernatural; it's something I've been telling myself for years and, as a result, it's stuck in my head and I do tend to heal quicker than what is considered usual.

I have never seen him in a wheelchair.

Probably as I have never seen him at all.

:p
Even if you don't like his sleazy music, you should at least be aware of him as a football fan.

7) The seat.. after about 60 miles it started to get uncomfortable.. And I LIKE hard seats .. To my mind it is poorly shaped, far too narrow at the front, which means more pressure on the coccyx and upper bum cheeks
Today I did an 80 mile trip again but this time with my fleece on the seat.

The fleece was good... and bad.
Good in that eliminated the numb bum syndrome completely.. Bad in that it exacerbated the back issue for some reason.. No idea why but within 50 miles my back felt it..
The issue is ( I believe ) the seat squab is either dead flat ( as in horizontal ) or pitched very slightly forward.. I will try and get a wedge of hard foam cut that is slightly thicker at the front and see how that works out
If it works I will get the seat custom profiled

Just a thought but might it be to do with the narrowness of the seat, especially at the front..? You're used to riding a more "conventional" bike seat, with a tank in front. That sort riding position probably splays your legs wider than the seating arrangement on the Piaggio. Maybe that's having a knock-on effect on your back. Either that or the feet slightly forward position might be to blame....

You could well be right about the feet position
The last 20 miles or so I did tuck my feet right back and it certainly improved the sore back, but I ended up with leg ache LOL !
As said, very early days yet... and my body still has to acclimatise to what is, as you rightly point, a radically different riding position

Just another thought.... Is that brake pedal to blame...? If your right foot is poised over that but your left foot relaxed and flat, then maybe after a while it's causing tension....

As have I and Egypt is "supposed" to be the third world country, if I were to have another stroke I'd have it there over here ANY time, fucking useless here at Wakefield NHS.

In 1992 Bev had four inch of muscle removed from her leg for biopsys, she was told by Mr Robson-Parsons (top neurosurgeon at Jimmys) that she would be in a wheelchair within 12 months & dead within 5 years. 27 years later she is still walking around without even a walking stick.
