Hi, Choice of tyres is a decision I need to make and am looking for your suggestions. I have had Dumlop 207/208's on my last couple of bikes and am wondering if they are suitable for the Bird or should I be looking for something a little different / harder compound / better profile.

I am all ears g0551p

Quite frankly anyone who has used DunPLOP tyres is either well hard or a loony ! LOL !
They really are amazingly poor substitutes for tyres. How about molding something out of resin.. mix a few marbles and some wood in and you nearly have the 207 .. 'cept it will grip better, last longer, give more feedback than a 207 or 208 ! :p

The field is devided as to what is best, tis between the Avon Azaro ( bird specific ST45 and ST46.. or like me ST46 rear and SP50 front ), and the Bridgestone offerings ( once again Bird specific 020's being the most popular.
there are minority groups ( sorry guys ) using other rubber too, but the main contenders are as stated.

Me, I love the Avons.. Had nowt but Bridgestones for years and then was more of less forced to try a set of Avons.. Never looked back.
HUGE milages obtained, and after years of being scared shitless if it rains 100 miles away, a growing confidence in the pissing rain.. Oh and very little squaring off either..
I would say they can be skittish in damp conditions, but realistically what tyre isn't..

I shall now step away from the plate and you watch all the other contenders come rampaging in ! LOL !!!

The jury will be out for weeks trying to decide an answer to that one !

To be honest the Dunlops were good for me and my erm style or riding. It has been pointed out that now I am on an 'Older mans bike' <---- my mum said that  I should review my tyre choices.

I have not used an Avon since the 70's when I swore by the Roadrunner TT ?
Never liked Bridgestones and what has put me off even more is that when I took delivery of the bike with only 2k on the clock the rear bridgestone was so dam square the bike could stand up on its own, and the tread was almost non existant.

Looks like I could be calling on the Avon lady

here we go again about tyres, jeez, the last topic lasted how many pages :}

well as you said it is all about personal choice. at the moment i am using mickyb's bird which is wearing a delectable pair of avon st45/46's bird specific, ie stamped with a B. my own experience with these has not been that great. in the wet, lights up nicely !!!! in the dry, can't fault them. takes a while to get heat into them but other than that, more than capable. much prefer the bridgestones BT020's. having said that, surely the Avon warranty is worth a look at as i discovered when the front went bang last week. with new avons, each tyre carries a free replacement warranty in the event of either puncture/blowout etc etc all they ask is that they tyre has a minimum of 2.4 mm tread on 80 % of the tyre. in which case, free replacement. just pay for fit and balance. can't argue with that for value for money eh !!

so yes, mixed feelings about the avons, just be gentle in the wet ( as with most tyres i guess) and give them time to heat up !!!! lot's of time.
i know Rhino and myself pretty much feel the same about them, and both love the bridgestones, but again, personal choice, personal opinion mate.
which ever you buy, don't be influenced, go with what you feel is right for your style of riding.
cheers

What ya on about oldtimer Had my set of D207s on for 10500 miles now and still havn't had a single slide yet............prolly coz they both slide in unison
really they aren't half as bad as peeps make out, the rear hasn't squared of too much and they grip well enough under most conditions and when they do let go at least they are predictable enough to keep it all together ........... having said all that I'll be giving a set of Avons a try if I can eventually wear out my Dunlops.
