Hi Blu

Hi Blu

I left the UK 30 years ago but have periodically returned on family visits and business. Personally, it is the best move I ever made and have never regretted it, but that will very much depend on individual circumstances (and why you might want to move to NZ as opposed to anywhere else in the world). NZ is NOT England of 30 years ago, despite the mental image of people who haven't been here.

Email me (james.fam@xtra.co.nz) with a bit about yourself and aspirations etc and I'll do all I can to give you a bit of perspective. I've also got a reasonable handle on employment opportunities and NZ job websites. Exploratory visits are no prob - free accomodation provided, but not airfares! :p

To get further info from more recent expats, join www.kiwibiker.co.nz and make a post on the subject. Quite a few other people have done this and they can help you with more recent comparisons. 2 Blackbird owners from the UK have emigrated within the last 1-2 years: Dave Easey from Auckland and Biff from Christchurch. Can easily put you in touch with these guys. If you want a casual look at house prices, check out www.realenz.co.nz. As an example, type in #HM7393 at the code entry space and it will show you what you get for about 150000 quid in Hamilton, a central north island city.

Hope this has been of some help.

Bugger - Just seen that you're Welsh - so's Biff. Sorry, you're excluded because of an unnatural fondness for our sheep. :neenaw:

Oii Geoff I heard that!!
Anyhoo, nowadays it's a prerequisite to have an 'interest' in sheep in order to qualify for NZ residency. And the Kiwi's love the Welsh, Scots and Irish Blu, so don't worry about being called a pom, they reserve that title for the English. Or 'bloody English' as they're more commonly known as here.

Take look around here Blu:http://www.immigration.govt.nz/
And here: www.stuff.co.nz this is a media link and it has information re;; employment, agencies etc
Also here : http://jobstuff.co.nz/6d3ab1a3a6e441fa/alert.html?menu_item=5 Register for the notification of relevant job opportunities.

Take particular note of the skills shortage section on the immigration website/ That's most peoples best chance should you not make the standard points benchmark. Although the point limit currently stands at 100, so its quite low.

I arrived here in NZ last october, and qualify under a work to residency scheme, because I (alledgedly) have a skillset that no other Kiwi has. Which is nice. I knew all those years worrying Bulgarian Swamp Donkeys would get me somewhere... or arrested.

Good luck.

Certainly was. And my ears were burning, hence our timely meeting here. Or maybe it was just plain chance. Or the mention of sheep.
