To a certain extent Duncan.
The EFI unit on a Bird is not exactly up to A I though... It will detect the engine is running weak and open the taps on the injecotrs more.. no clever refinement but in all but the most rare occurorances ( sp ? ) all will be ok.. In fact usually things tend towards the rich side !

I would not advise putting cans AND a K and N filter on without fitting a PC II though.. both togther can lead to the bike running very weak and exhaust valve damage possibly happening ( Last year I had two EFI bikes in for servicing that had both cans and filter.. both were running dangerously lean with the plugs coming out pure white )

John, I've got a K&N and a pair of Blue flames (still with the baffles in) but I'm still waiting for a mate to turn up with the PCIII. Is it adviseable to put the original cans back on, I've done about 300 miles so far.

S**T, just when I thought all was well, John I'm lookin' at gettin' some Carbon Quill T3s for my '04 Bird, they are R/Legal but off a carbed bike, are they OK without a K&N (I WAS thinking of getting a K&N as well 'till I read the above). %$fan

Chances are, as they are road legal, you might JUST get away with the filter as well, though I would be inclined not to risk it..
But sure the cans alone will be absolutely fine ( legal bit.. and please, this really is just to cover my arse and I REALLY believe all will be fine and speak from much and repeated experience when I say that .... but if you blow it up, fall off, get eaten by rabid apes or anything else happens to you or your bike cos you change the cans , sorry but you do so at your own risk ! :p ! )

Now.... as an aside, I very often use all sorts of aftermarket cans on my Y2K bird and it has been spot on and no probs :-

Quill's

Just for my tuppence.
Had a pair of T3's on my Bird for 4 years and theyve been great, I didn't change anything else on the bike at the time (its carb'd) but don't know about the Injected models.
Ace cans tho !

yup

Oh yeah !
They may be street legal but I don't know how !
My missus does complain a bit (nothing new there then  ) when she's on the back cos apparantly they make a nice fruity noise ! (so do I actually)
I'm still waiting for plod to pull me over for the noise then I can show him the nice shiny BS plate on them !!
They aint too loud though, nothing to disturb the neighbours but a nice throaty roar.
Definately recommended, heres mine :yo:

Thanks John  , I've booked a run on a local dyno next week to check the fueling. The guy that runs it has a good reputation and will allow me the cost of this run against any later set up runs so nothing to lose.

In the meantime I'm going to leave the 'Bird in the garage and run around on the two bikes I've been left to keep running whilst their owners are in places hot and sandy.

Err, anyone know how to disconnect the speedo from a Pan European and a Ducati 750SS? :t
