Since it was one your bloody Brit moto-mags that gave me this idea to begin with, I might as well show youse guys how it all came out...
Background: Dec 24th, 2002. It is the dead of Winter here in Pacific Northwest, and due to frequent ice storms, most of the vast frozen tundra of the Columbian Basin offers little to no riding. Right, how 'bout a little winter project, then?
I got this idea from either Performance Bikes, or maybe it was Superbike. It featured a killer photo of some tarted-up racer of some sort.... a R1 or a Gixxer, can't recall which, but what made it stand out was both of its wheels had black rims with red spokes! Looked pretty awesome in the photo!
My 929 Erion is all-black from the fuel tank aft (everything.... seat cowl, hugger, wheel, frame, etc), so I wasn't too keen on painting the rear wheel spokes a bright red. Not to mention the new maintenance requirement of having to periodically clean chain spooge off the bright red paint.
But the front wheel..... that's a candidate.... oh, yeah! But the question remains: how would the end result look? Would it look strange with only the spokes painted, vice the whole wheel? And would it look jarring to have the two wheels look different?
Well, let's just find out.....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the front wheel, rotors long since removed and wheel/tire taped up, after the last coat of Erion Red paint was sprayed. Yikes, reminds me of the solid wheel colors of a mid-80's Hurricane!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey now, things are looking a little better with the gnarley tape removed, and are ready to have rotors re-installed:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the rotors make a big difference! Recipe for these Polished Jewels: [(1 Dremel buffer wheel) + (1 tube Semichrome polish)] x (6 Carrier bolts):
END OF Part 1 <this message in two parts due to a lot of photos>
