I see he has come in for some stick when he was asked if he would "take the knee". He said that he thought it was a symbol of "subjugation and subordination" and he would only do it for the Queen and when he asked his missus to marry him.

Well done that man, I say.

I would add that you should kneel for the fallen...as so nicely put by this t-shirt, produced by the guys over at https://militaryhumorstores.com. Already ordered mine.

"Taking the knee"..... an american trend to show solidarity with coloured people who have been killed by American police.
Not the same as over here where we have Queen ( thank god ! ).
As much as I dislike Raab it is wrong to judge him for not adopting an american trend.
I don't have a problem with anyone who wishes to " take the knee" but it should be a personal choice of the individual and not imposed by an obligation to conform .

I was disappointed & slightly angry with the footballers taking the knee just after kick off, they were told beforehand that they could do so if they wished but in reality I would bet some did not want to but felt pressured, It would have been funny if one person decided to carry on playing & scored whilst the rest were kneeling.

I would show proper respect to anyone who deserves it but take the knee to or for any man or woman for that matter, not a chance

Just for once I agree with Raab entirely, well done that man for making his feelings clear !

What has surprised me is the almost mocking tone of the BBC news earlier today.

It seemed to be to be a "oh my god, you didn't know that taking the knee was a protest and nothing to do with showing deference. How insulting to the protest movement".

This particular minister may be just as much a Pratt as the others, but his view of what "taking the knee" means is correct.

It only became a protest when it was used recently instead of standing upright and hand on heart for the traditional USA pre match national anthem.

For many, many years going down on one knee (genuflecting) has been a way of paying homage/respect.
