Thought i would give the new to me Blackbird an outing today, i was a little nervous as the bike hasn't moved for over 12 months, to be honest its only covered its total 6k miles since new in 07 so not even run in, although low miles it hasnt been looked after that well as the alloy fur has got hold of some parts and the chrome on the forks is pitted badly enough to need replacements, the tank is clean inside so no real dramas however now i have run it i have full confidence in it,
I dont usually bother riding on Saturdays or bank holiday weekends to be honest however, got to Devils bridge with no real hold ups and then over to Hawes, lovely roads and remarkably quiet, saw 4 blackbirds at Devils bridge and two at Hawes.
I really enjoyed the Blackbird, it felt just right, perhaps more so because i was really up for the ride and everything including the weather was great.
Now i am happy it has no flaws other than cosmetic i reckon i will throw a couple of bob at it to have it looking and riding great, kind of give it what it deserves and perhaps more.
Over winter i will treat the Forks and shock for starters followed by new tyres and brakes, and then a tidy of the cosmetics. should have me a beauty for next spring.............. Not much out there that stirs the enthusiasm like Blackbirds, at least not for me.
Any tips re checks for long laid up bjkes appreciated?
