hello anyone,

My 99 inj Bird is in semi retirement awaiting cash for parts to sort her out, tyres, chain'n srocket, discs, etc. I run her upto temp and spin around the block weekly to keep the spiders from getting comfy but she has suffered on occasion from a dodgy contact on switching the key to the run position, this would be cured by a tap on the top of the keywhich would cause all the usual things to happen and allow the bike to start. Untill last week that is. She started first push as always ran fine. then later (after cooling) I turned the key again and nothing, tapping the key has not helped. the clock still displays but no life on anything else, horn, lights, indicators, no fuel pump or efi. I have checked all the fuses and they are ok my guess is a major wire off/ broken contact but the real question is where to start looking. Any suggestions?

Look under the switch and see if the big thick red wire is still attached..
If it is it looks like a new switch for you

thanks but but but

Hi Chaps
thanks but the battery is in tip top condition, and the reg rec has been changed (more than once). The bike is lacking power to everything except (as far as i can tell) the clock. so I'll check the start switch leads but I have a feeling it is a bit more fundemental than that. She has been exposed to the elements for years and I wonder if there are any likely major earth points that might be suspect around the key barrel. I had the barrel and Hiss changed (upgraded) in 2005.
