There's still a long way to go before the end of the season - and the drama at Catalunya has shown again the very fine line these brave men tread between domination and disaster! (OO-oo - pretty deep, huh?!) sp1ttt3

Still; at the end of the day:

...THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.... g0nn3

...and at the culmination of this, probably the best season ever of motorcycle racing at the highest level...

Rossi.

Congratulations to Rossi for winning the 2006 years championship.
I'll say it now as the championship is all over bar the shouting after the crashes at the Catalyna GP, and Rossi will win the title.

Hayden has a slim hope to no hope of winning (and I think Slim just left town g0nn3 ) as Rossi is (only) 29 points behind with 10 races left.
Not counting this season Hayden has been in GPs for 3 years and I think the statistics stack against him. Totting up 17 races per season and the 7 races of this year plus an odd few in his first year, that's about 60 GPs under his belt BUT he has only won one. Rossi on the other hand in 60 odd races has won 35 plus, are you getting the picture......
For Hayden to win the championship he will have to pull at least 3 wins out of the bag from the remaining 10, which I can't see him doing given his track record.
Of course Rossi doesn't even have to win all the races, finishing in front of Hayden in every race will give him enough points for the championship.
With the very sad racing incident of last week, 3 of the main title contenders won't be fully fit for at least a month and although they might race surely their respective injuries will stop them racing at full pace, and sadly their title hopes for 2006 are gone.
The only one that just might have managed to step up to the mark and nick some points would be Pedrosa but in reality with another DNF his chance has now gone up in smoke.
The problem for Hayden is that Pedrosa is, in effect, a bit of a loose cannon. Hayden will have to do his level best to finish in front of Pedrosa for all of the remaining races, because for every race that Pedrosa scores over Hayden his chances of winning the title (discounting Rossi) get slimmer and slimmer and surely Honda will have thought of that.
For me what started out as a good championship has now fallen flat on it's arse, of course Rossi missed all the crashing ('cos he's a jammy bastid) so he has only really Hayden to worry about, and I don?t suppose Rossi is loosing too much sleep over that!
It's just too pie in the sky, I just cant see Hayden winning 3 GPs :dunno: .
Will Stoner manage to stay on board long enough to take any points off Hayden? .....we shall see..
But from now 'till the end of the championship Rossi has got all the aces stuffed firmly up his Italian sleeve.

So well done Rossi for winning this years championship.

Zippo.

You must have some pret-ty good binoculars if you can see the fat lady from there, M8!

Let?s listen?.hear any singin?? Nope?neither can I!

It?s been a great season so far, and we?ve seen the best race of the MotoGP era at Mugello ? I reckon everybody would agree to that - from Mamola all the way down to me! What?s made the season so great has been Team Yamaha?s struggle to tame the M1 and the emerging battle for domination between Honda, Yamaha and Ducati for this year - and next, when the 800cc category is introduced.

Speculation is rife that Hayden's racing the ?Evo? version of next year?s bike this season against larger capacity machines. It seems he?s been developing that bike all year - it?s ?his baby?. Within that context, the fact that he?s only won one race pales into insignificance when you consider that he?s been more consistent than anyone for the last ten MotoGP races! Write him off at your peril!

It?s tempting to think that Rossi has got it in the bag ? but not realistic ? by its very nature, racing is unpredictable. (Did anybody predict Rossi?s DNF?s? Stoner?s crashes? The catastrophe at Catalunya?) I?d love nothing more than for Valentino to continue to prove his supremacy for one more year before he retires. I?d put a tenner on him doing it (but not my house (would you?!))

OH! And, er?.talking about "unpredictable"...http://www.motogp.com/en/motogp/motogp_news.htm?menu=news&news_id=17155&championship_id=3&section=1

It?s been said before and I?ll say it again:

It ain?t over till the fat lady sings!

Let?s wait for the end of the GP at Valencia 2006 before we crown the King!!

DA. M8.
Well exactly! But if I were a gambling man I would bet you 100euros that Rossi will win the championship as tenner jus wouldn't be enough, would it?
ROSSI WILL WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP so there you have it.

Well?I wish I was as certain as you, Paul ? if I was I guess I certainly would put my house on him winning it! But it ain?t over till it?s over, and as you?ve already pointed out, there are still ten races to be completed. bl4hbl4h

I know you?ve always had an inkling that I might be a fan of Rossi?s - and I suppose it?s time for me to come out and lay my cards on the table?

I think he?s a GOD

? but he?s not an immortal, perfect god who can control the future ? he?s just the greatest motorcycle racer of his era who still has to compete at his very best to win the title this year!! :yo:

Nothing?s settled yet and I recall writing some time ago on this forum that I thought Valencia 2006 might be the crucial race of the season. When we got back from Mugello, Lorraine said: ?Can we go to Valencia?? and I thought about it for a second then said: ?Yeah! We?re going!? I?ve just had a feeling all along that nothing would be settled until the last race ? so we?ve got the tickets ? just in case!

Will he win it? I think so. But I don?t think it?s over yet?

?Not by a long way?! d04l1ng

Zippo the wise one.

A bit rocky after getting home - and having a few beers (on an empty tum) before watching Assen - but this has been, is, and will be the greatest season of MotoGP that I?ll see. There will be greater times ? but not for me. Why?

Because I watched Capirossi, in physical distress even on the warm-up lap, dice with Rossi to score a single, extra point in the race. I watched Rossi, in the midst of his obvious pain, show compassion for a fellow competitor (in a world where ?compassion? cannot exist).

I saw Nicky Hayden, coolly and in a most calculated manner, begin to assume the mantle of a World Champion and, most of all, I saw Colin Edwards give his ALL to win a race for Yamaha ? to no avail - and he really did ?take the brain out?!

On SKY they were talking about Valencia as if it was going to be important event of the season, i.e. "critical" in terms of the championship. Have-ya heard that before, somewhere? Rossi is 46 points behind Hayden in the championship: 46?

I say again: this has been, is, and will be the greatest season of MotoGP that I?ll see....

What that means is that it's Rossis 6th attempt at the championship, but he will finish 4th in the this year. man8um

Pedrosa's on pole - Rossi's in a hole (again!) - and I'm just off to Donny to watch him dig himself out...Still more than 200 points to be won and we're only half-way through the season. Bliss! :yo:
