Connecting TV/Sky/5.1 Home Cinema System

I currently have a 32" Bush TFT TV, a Pace Sky system and a Sony 5.1 Home cinema system. I have connected up the TV to the system but how the hell does the Sky box connect to the system. TV and Sky has 2 scart sockets but the very latest Cinema System from Sony has only the one. There are no other available ports on the Cinema system for audio/Din/Scart etc so how does the Sky get played via the amp ??

I am stumped.

Optical output from the sky+ box to a 5.1 amp, but otherwise there's no 5.1 output from normal sky boxes.

I run the pre-amped left and right audio from the TV to my amp. I scart the sky box to a TiVo, then to the TV. You may replace TiVo with DVD-recorder/VCR if that's your setup.

1. Lead from sky to VCR/Hard disk/DVD recorder etc (Recordable device).
2. Lead from recordable device to TV.
3. Lead from TV to 5.1 Surround sound system.

Basically sky is not being played by the amp its the sound from the TV thats being played, it has the added bonus of no matter what you put through the telly you can play it on the surround system.

Hope that helps.8l1nd
Think thats what he's saying anyway.8l1nd

More or less.

If you have an AV Receiver you might want to be able to switch audio and video signals through it, but at worst this would need to be s-video+L+R, at best yours might support component rgb and digital audio.

I have to switch audio and video separately myself, as I have scarts a plenty for video and no component or s-video sources. Anything that's stereo or pro-logic will come through the TV-out pair just fine. Anything DTS/DD I have optical or digital signals for.

If your TV has no pre-amped L+R phonos on the back, you'll need to get a splitter - SCART to SCART+L+R phonos, or possibly your Sky box has L+R phonos on the back?

Not that bad myself - got the VCR plugged into the DVD recorder, DVD recorder and Sky plugged into the TiVo, TiVo to the TV, DVD player to TV. PS2 and XBox into a 5-into-1 into the TV.

Luckily my TV has 3 SCARTs and 2 are RGB. k1ap

Chip your xbox and it has brilliant freeware media centre software (XBMC) for it. Plays just about any format from network shares, hard drive, dvd tray.

I've been reading it with interest too..... but for those (most?) of us not so familiar with inter-kit compatibility, the jargon you're using is leaving us way behind!!

RGB = Red, Green and Blue. Colour signals being sent from one device to another i.e Video to TV, urmm, fundemental colours to make up the picture you see on telly.

Network Shares = Urmm, same sort of thing that businesses used to link all their computers together, your simply sharing that, difference is with the X-Box it's not used for business it's entertainment i.e. games, music etc.

Chip the X-Box = Simply an upgrade to the existing system, don't think you can go down to your local curry's and pick one up though (i could be wrong).

Don't like leaving people behind with jargon (sorry m8)c7u8 , especially as i used be just the same, i only know what i know from mucking about computers etc to find this stuff out.
If i can help you i will, but believe me there are people here much more knowledgable than me, it's just a case of translating it all.8l1nd

What exactly have you got in the way of inputs into the Amp?

Its a fascinating thread, I have some playing about to do today with.....

TV that has 2 Scart
Sky that has 2 scart
DVD/Amp that only has the one

Think I will go buy some audio cables and a scart hub thingy

I take it the 6 inputs for speakers are actually outputs for the satalite speakers that you have placed around the room from the amp, so we'll go along the lines that you only have 1 input for the amp (SCART), if you have an output SCART from the telly use that into the amp, as was said earlier, it won't matter what you put through the telly (DVD, SKY etc), you'll be able to put it through the surround sound system. If the output from Sky (SCART) is your only option, bear in mind that the only thing you'll be able to put through the surround is SKY.
If your tv has the AV outs (not sure if thats what their called, little round sockets, one will be red, one will be white) these will be audio outs (may be a yellow one as well for video), you should be able to pickup a lead from most electrical stores that links the plugs for these to a SCART at the other end, use that to link the TV to the AMP.
