Harpic max strength gets the crap off stainless exhausts a treat too, plenty of vids about it if you search but basically brush it on, leave a while depending on how bad it is & wash it off
If its really bad keep applying the Harpic for half an hour so it stays wet & give it a scrub with a stiff brush before washing
When I was cleaning Bird forks I was told by a guy who restores vehicles, to rub them with coke (drink) and tinfoil.
He said it woul fill pitting.
Didn't do it for me.
