Yeh, sorry guys, re reading my first line it does sound an exageration. Sorry, it wasn't meant to be.
Neither of you said wether you were engineers or not, both had made good suggestions and had asked for more info. Some of the suggestions were initially based on guesswork which were then perhaps a little irrelevent(maybe a better word than those I used) I had waited for the extra info before agreeing about the valves synchron motor, but also wanted to stall any unnecessary work on wiring that has, by the sound of things, worked ok even if its not wired to the letter of the law as such.
I agree that most room stats should be wired with a neutral, some newer types don't work without one, those that work without one will often work but with a wider temp diference between on and off.

Anyway Vinters, hows it going?

Well...we got through Christmas and it hasn't 'not worked' since the last time it threw a wobbler, which was at the time of the 1st post..:yo::yo:

Yeah I know it's still a ticking time bomb but I live life close to the edge :-0)

Fired up the central heating last week and yet again it didn't work proper :bang:... same problem as mentioned in the first post 8ree!.

But seeing as we are now on a service contract we called the heating engineer this time@tu*.

Just to settle the arguments/contradictions etc, he changed the motor on the 3 way valve..... but to no avail. Although the system worked OK when switched manually. He then fitted a complete new valve...and hey presto the problem is solved

Whilst going through my system the general comments I read online were that the valve can get bunged-up with crud in the pipes.

Valve seized, I guess CH has been off a while, and valve had seized to HW side. Had that one before.
Might be time to have the system flushed. I assume you have CH system protector in the CH/HW system.
