Central base for Highland Tour

Was thinking of touring Scottish Highlands - taking bike up on it's trailer and staying somewhere central to have days out in radial directions over a 10 day period or so. Would consider splitting time over two "bases". Anyone done anything similar, got any recommendations?

Never toured from a central point before. Last time I went was for 5 or 6 days and staying in a different B&B each night we covered about 1400 miles plus 7 hours ferry journeys

1st night Uig (Isle of Sky)
2nd night Stornoway (Isle of Lewis)
3rd night Kinlochbervie (somewhere north of Ullapool)
4th night Dunnet Head (somewhere way up top)
5th night Fort Augustus (Loch Ness)

Some brilliant touring to be done up there. We wanted to visit Cape Wrath which hosts the highest sea cliffs in UK up in the far NW but there were military exercises going on at the time so it was closed to the public.

Pity to trailer ya bike to the Highlands when you could spend two days and one overnight stop riding from Pembroke up through Wales, across into the Pennines and through the Dale, up into the Borders before hitting the Highlands. Waste of a fekkin good ride.

10 days up there? Four days would be enough for me. After that the accents would turn me to murder.

I didnt go last year but a group of mates toured Scotland for a week or so from a house they rented at Fort William. The only night they didn't return to base was when they did John o' Groats, that night they stayed up there in a B&B and returned the long way round down the north west coast. Can find out exactly where they stayed if you are interested, but I think there were about four couples sharing the house...

Is a lunp
bikers run b&b in Moffatt,

as other said better to ride around and stop where you want.

catacol bay hotel on the isle of arran was our favourite. http://www.catacol.co.uk/

calendar again has loads of them. with 10 days you could do the lot.

Start at dumfries and work your way around.

For the last 6 yrs , me and a mate have been to Scotland , although it has been in June, and we stay in Fort William,at a B&B called The Myrtle Bank guest house , on the A82 as you enter the town, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Fort William makes a good base for touring the Highlands, because most places can be reached on a decent sized rideout , e.g the Isle of Skye , Ardnamurchan Point , Inverness, etc, etc,. The b&B is also excellent , and I will be booking in again in a couple of months time.@tu*@tu*@tu*
