Dunno why no-one else has replied?????

Thousands of campsites everywhere in France from 'Camping Municipal' (Brown signposts) to sheer luxury. Usually well signposted by roadside adverts as you draw within striking distance. (Bit like McDonalds LOL)

If you want to aim for one in advance you could do worse than have a look at www.alanrogers.com - have used his guide numerous times and the info has always been spot-on, even down to the number of 'english' toilets - and even whether they have seats or not!

Don't assume the 'Municipals' are always basic though - sometimes they are, but sometimes they have swimming pools and/or restaurants on site. Shed-loads of choice!

Try Provence - the Gorge du Verdon - if you are looking for scenery and the (a-hem) odd bend in the road. (Pete says he'd like to go back on someone's pillion so he can really enjoy the stunning views - instead of needing to concentrate on the loose gravel on the bends and precipitous drops!)

As others said plenty of sites but be careful in August as most places are full and a week into Sept most can be closed

TaxiRED?

I am so special.
I did 1 week out the 2 last Aug, never booked owt and never had a problem finding a space, even at lake garda. BUT its summat i wont be doing it again in fact it wouldnt bother me if i never saw a bloody tent again.

Second week we hit the hotels and again never had a problem finding rooms. But i can say it was bliss getting up in the morning with a hangover and not folding a bloody tent up. :bang:

Sooooo this year NO TENTS ..d34l

Well as anyone who knows us will tell you, we have also given up le comping when its only for one night en route, there are so many chains so cheap, (we try and head for the 'B&B' chain as at least they all have locked carparks after 7pm) and small hotel/restaurants in little villages here there and everywhere who will often quite cheerfully and without being asked offer your 'moto' a cosy garage for the night - or even in the rear lobby of the hotel along with 2 Irish bikes and M'sieurs cruiser on one occasion ! You get good buffet breakfasts in nearly all of the chains.

At the slightly more up-market Etap's (nicer curtains and bedspreads) they also have a restaurant so that's the evening meal sorted if the town's too far away and you can't be arsed (or your arse is too sore LOL) to get back on the bike. But their breakfasts aren't so good IMHO. If you really are on a budget you can stay at Formule 1's - they are ridiculously cheap - but Rolfy and Jan nor me and Pete would want to unless we had no other choice and it really was only for the one night - as they are not ensuite. You can easily afford to be picky when there is so much choice at such reasonable prices.

I have not experienced the Bonsai chain - I always seem to get this mental picture of Clouseau coming home to be met by Cato; and imagining that happening to us as we roll bleary eyed into our rrrum!

Anyway, it's hardly a problem whatever you decide on - unless of course you choose to stay in Orleans (you know, the place where Joan of Arc came from!) the same weekend as the Euro conference of Jehovah's Witnesses (don't ask!) -that was a Premier Classe hotel - I said never again and haven't - but that was also cheap, ensuite and a good breakfast, whatever else I say about it !

PS Dave that's come round really quick, hasn't it?

I know I'm not Rolfy, (he must still be sleeping at this hour!) but it distinctly looks like the Millau Viaduct, Millau, southern France, designed by Lord Foster (British architect...)...

Dark Angel

Still kickin' it!
...Nope :t...This is Millau :p...We visited it last year! :yo:

...Unless, of course, I've been completely fooled (not difficult!) by the aerial photography. Guess it could be Millau, after all!

Hi Eric,

It came up as the Millau bridge aeriel view when I was researching it... Sorry to say, I dont know it from Stourport bridge (currently under renovation), so I thought it was a good shot...

Here is the page it came from

Thought if that was the bridge, I would like to do the rop route, then go dack by the lower twisties, then over the top again :lick:

whatever, or wherever it is, I would like to see it...

Not long now...LOL

getting excited.

Loads of love to you & Lorraine

Ariel trickery I think Eric.. cracking picture tho..

we had a night in Millau town just so we could take some proper time out to have a good luck at the bridge.. nice town for a stay over with a little bit more of the touristy feel about the place, that the bridge brings, not too much tho as to spoil anything..

dont rush a visit.. worth a longer stop over just to take it all in ..

Rolfy,
Which way are you going down to the Millau bridge?, I am going down that way in July with a mate on a Hayabusa, In fact got the ferry booked for 21st July returning on 28th. Will be the sixth year on a run that our wifes have let us escape!
Hope you both have a fantastic time.

We are staying a little village called Cocumont, which is near Marmande and travelling down the non paying oads via Rouen, and le Mans etc. so it should be a nice route...

We aim to go over to Andorra then down to the Southern French coast for a bit of posing, then up to Millau then back to Cocumont. Will have to do the Bordeaux thang as well...

Best wishes,

Rolfy
