A lot of guys have replaced the stock Bird CCT with the X11 version.. Its a direct replacement but has a slightly stronger spring and very slightly different body.. It is about 54 quid to buy including tax, agin 42 to 47 quid for the standard one

Mine too

My Bird, April 2002, with nearly 6000miles also makes a similar noise round 4k.

Is it at all possible that a bike with this few miles and this new could have a dogy CCT? I kind of thought that this was just the noise it made as its my first XX and I guess I'm still getting used to it.

If it is the CCT, is it doing any damage to the engine or anything else?

I've had 2 birds from now and both had a bit of a buzz around 3-3500rpm, after that smooth as silk to redline. I believe it is just a characteristic of the balancers. As discussed in a previous thread, the balancers can be adjusted slightly and this can affect the nature of any vibration that occurs and where in the rev range it appears.

It seems that balancers cannot totally eliminate all vibration throughout the relatively broad rpm range of the bird engine and Honda have optimised the setup for the range from 3500 rpm to redline.

Simple answer

Fit a set of really noisey race cans and you can no longer hear the buzz. hee hee:}

Works for me.

Why do we still get CCT problems...

My first Honda a 77 550F2 suffered - my 96 BB suffers - the basic design of the Honda CCT doesn't seem to have changed in years, the priciple they use seems NAF, it still plays up/wears out. :B

So what do Yams/Kwaks/Suzi's/Beamers do to tension the Cam Chain cos I don't hear about problems with their CCT's (proly cos I'm not listenin!!) :D
