Does anyone else suffer from this when riding the BB or is it just me.. I get this really bad burning sensation in my lower neck where it meets the back which I belive is down to the angle of my neck in relation to my back. I have bought some bar raisers from Pete in the hope that it would resolve the problem, but no such luck...

The pain is now getting so bad that I am seriously thinking about selling the bike.. for something more upright... but it wont be a harley... Pete said he has some gillies bar raisers which would raise the bars higher and bring them back more I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and resolved it with the Gillies bar raisers?

I only have to do around 10-15 miles now before the painful burning sensation starts, the other problem is that it never really gets to dissapear because by the time it has started to subside (usually the following morning) I am on the bike again... the long and short of it is if I can't get this resolved in the next couple of weeks the bike is going up for sale...I love the bike but when my health is in being affected like this no bike is worth that... :dunno:

Seriously..................

Go and see a chiropractor and let them check you over.

You may be surprised at what they find..............................

I used to get something similar when riding my road bicycle. The cure for me was two fold; rise the handle bars and learn not to have a death grip on them as this was causeing me to tense up my neck and shoulders which in turn starts to cut off the blood supply in two veins in the back of your neck.

Hope this helps.

I sometimes get a really painful neck, but only when the wife is on pillion, I put it down to me being more tense with her on the back, and not riding with the flow so to speak, on my own I can do 230 miles no probs.

If your gonna make offers at least be serious about them... start them at the value of a full tank of petrol

If someone has the gillies fitted and they are not too far from S. London I would be gretaful if I could come over and take a look at them,, seriously the pain is becoming unbearable, I used to do the death grip hold just after I passed my test, no longer do that, I am convinced it is the angle I am sitting at.. Never had this problem with the Hornet 900

good looking AND modest
although it pains me to agree with Mr Pinder, If I were you Id go and see a back/kneck specialist, and see what they reckomend, after all its got to be cheaper than trying to sell your bike at this time, ask Steve, people arnt paying a lot for them, :dunno:

its Arthritis,

Spondalosis of the vertebra, I got it at thirty five and it comes and goes, the muscles around the first two vertebra go into spasm and that causes the burning sensation, the trapese muscles need to be massaged, try raising your shoulders up and down, i take pain killers if its bad. no known cure.

Tony, try removing the earings first :} And if that don't work buy one of those slow ugly like sofa things :} (otherwise known as the most versatile bike going :-: )

Thanks Ian

You know theres more to riding bikes than simply sitting on them and making them go and (sometimes) stop.

Theres a little bit of science attached to it - breathing, wellbeing, fitness, mood, stress, diet, age, environmental conditions and about a million and one other things can and do influence the way we do things - its just that it can be somewhat pronounced when riding a bike.

How do you know your riding kit fits properly and does not influence/impede you in anyway for instance?

These are just a few of the avenues you can explore, experience also comes into play. I know my capabilities and deliberately choose not to ride sometimes because I don't feel up to it.

Last night I rode through the New Forest quite late and in the pissing (monsoon) rain and overtook just about everybody I came upon.
Why - because I could and rode well within my capabilities for the given conditions. Yet other times I would have trouble walking the same route!

There - a few questions for you to ponder.

Ever read "BIKE" , if not buy the next issue and in the training section, usually opposite our review  , you will read about a different topic usually encompassing lots of different riding aspects some of which most peeps will have never ever, ever considered!

Don't do it!!! I had same problem. It was hell. I was on tour and had copious amounts of Ibobrofen Gel to cope. When I got back I went for a massage (not a mucky one :} ) My muscles in my neck/shoulder were knotted or something. A 40 minute deep massage session and I have not had the problem since. I have been back for another massage but thats only cause I like it (and her!!!)
Seriously, try that. If massage doesn't work try Chiropractor before you give up the bird

Also

Also agree with Tony, I got some relief by not lifting my head so much but lifting my eyes. Another thing I did was changed from flip up screen back to original. The little bit of extra 'lift' I got on my shoulders took the weight off a bit and helped.

Its got nothing to do with the bike like THIS MAN SAYS at the moment i have been off work since the 14th of june WITH EACTLY the same pains and im a truck driver after having so many tests done the specialists have told me that it is SPONDALOSISof the vertibras AND NO KNOWN CURE but if you intend to ride then the more upright and relaxed you sit the better having said that im still hoping to buy a BB next year all i can say is good luck i had the pain during 1and a half months and the first few days did not sleep try to avoid any air co, :t cold drafts :t etc if you ride then protect the base of your neck ................................................................................................. $%3un $%3un

My advice would be to seek out a chiropractor immediately.

I have used them for 6 years now. I cannot reccomend them highly enough.

The Mctimmony type will realign your entire spinal cord.

Another type, that I now use, retunes your entire nervous system so that your entire body (assuming no permanant damage has taken place) returns to its correct overall functioning, that the sub concious mind knows is correct for your body.

You also get a non x-ray scan of this function.

It also works for those with no syptoms at all, it is like having a regular tune up.

Both will release any tight or frozen muscles.

Only then will you truly know if there is any permanant damage.

Tony, do you feel an accute pain in the anus as well when you have this sensation in the neck? If yes it could be the man buggering you breathing to close to? your neck :dunno: Seriously, following my crash last year when I landed on my head, my neck is still a mess but good enough mow to be treated with ostheopathy, and you couldn't believe what they can do. I see you're in south London, I am being treated there (at Borough Ostheopathy Clinic or whatever it's called) so if you're interested PM me your phone number and I'll call you for the details etc.

I don't think it is Spondilitis / arthritis - I ride without any symtoms occuring and I'm tottaly f*cked up with arthritis. Could be what others have said about riding position, it would be a shame to sell the bike just to find it re-occuring.
I hope you find a cure very soon.

Tony.....I'm sure I mentioned the very same problem to you when you were at Beaulieu Motorcycle World. I've had this sensation since day one of Bird ownership. After riding bikes for 30 odd years I think I know how to relax on a bike and not hang on for grim death......as far as I know I don't have a back or neck problem......but if I'm on the 'Bird for more than an hour the pain you decribe sets in.

I never had the problem with previous 'sport-tourer' type bike....CBR1000 or CBR600 so I can only put it down to the 'Bird's riding position not suiting me personally.

I hope you overcome it M8.
