>>BRIDGESTONE approved FITMENTS<<

JoeBoy - spoke to Bryn at Bridgestone earlier and this is what they say...............note: there's a new tyre out to replace the 010..........

As of January 2003 Bridgestone are now only APPROVING four tyre fitments for the SuperBlackie - running 42psi front & rear:

1) BT57 G matched pair (yes they're still available)
2) BT 020 W on the front BT 020 L on the rear
3) BT 011 E on the front BT 010 on the rear
4) BT 011 E on the front BT 012 on the rear

A few points: The front compound of any matched pair is always different to that of the rear.

The BT 020 W is a 'Bird specific front version of the 020.

The BT 011 E for the front is the exact same tyre that is Original Equipment on the 2002 GSXR1000. This tyre is very similar to a standard 010 but has a special construction giving far better damping characteristics.

Note: Bridgestone DO NOT approve the fitment of an 010 on the front of the 'Bird. In their words, "This fitment results in a noticeable 'shimmie' when decelerating that becomes greater as the tyre wears". True - I suffer from this at the moment. The 'Bird's too heavy on the front for the 010 (as Jaws pointed out 6 months back!)

The fourth recommended fitment uses a BT 012 on the rear. THIS TYRE IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE ULTRA SOFT BT 012 SS. The BT 012 is currently standard fitment on the new ZX9R and Blade. It's a brand new design which will eventually replace the now four year old BT 010. It's a tyre for 'future' superbikes according to Bridgestone and will give similar mileage to an 010.

The above information came from Bryn Philips from the motorcycle division at Bridgestone's UK headquarters. For more information speak to him or Arthur Macdonald on 01926 488500.

Oh cheers Andy, why not get me in more trouble?

As much as I'd like to do the trike event, we'll be in Valencia for WSB (my missus works for BA), but you can get flights with Sleezy- Jet to Alicante (45 mins away) for peanuts at the moment. Then all you do is hire a car with Sleezy-car for ?6 a day (that's ?1.50 each a day between four of you) and you're away. Accomodation is cheap and so is the beer and food, all this and sun in March (can't wait).
As for Hastings, well presume you're refering to the May-Day run? If so, I did it 2 years ago and it was agony (had a 955i then!) - mind you, my left forearm got a good work out as did the cluth.
How could I forget the Streetfighter event, but what's the Marget and Southend run like Wolvey ?

I squeezed 3700 out of a rear BT-010, whereas the BT-020 gives me closer to 5500 each time..............both end up being replaced due to them squaring off - cos of the amount of straight line motorway work I do.................

Hmmm.......

Guess I had better stick with the Macadam 100's or what ever the new ones are called.

Anyone here had experiences with Avon Azuro ST's, (Standard or the ST 2)???

Bugger !!!!
You beat me to it Samster !!
Nutter and me spent ages chatting to the guys as well.. Got lots of useful info and we got something you didn't !
We got them to send us a box of their nice posh side stand pucs to hand out to everyone at the Bash !!
Dunno how many they will send, so it will be first come first served.. but what an excellent gesture on their behalf to support BIRD like that !
I shall be mailing the man and thanking him

Yep I am running Avon Azaro ST's, after an initial problem that Avon sorted with two brand new tyres, I can't fault them, they have superb grip, give plenty of feed back, they even power slide in a most stable way.

If you are up for mileage, I normally rip a 020 out in about 3000 to 3500 miles, I had 5000 on these and there was plenty left as I said they gave me a new pair so I didn't get the chance to take them all the way.

But at the end of the day if you have more than a 3mm chicken strip round the edge, you will never get close to the limit of any modern tyre, except maybe a concord remould :}

I'm happy with my 020's having tried various tyres on the Bird.

and I have zero mm chicken strips R#? , especially since the suspension got sorted :}

Thanks fellas, I've very much enjoyed, and benefitted from reading about this topic. Tires for the bird that is.
I have pretty much decided to get the Bridgstone's but don't know which one 010, or the 020's.
The tread life is not a factor for me, what I am intrested in is how fast do they heat up in comparison, and how do they fair in the wet.
I ride short trips most of the time less than 20 miles, and I do ride in the wet stuff sometimes.
So please share with me your experience, and advise me on my upcoming perchuse.

Thanks in advance,
Tarek

Do not for god sake put an 01 on the front !
Dont get me wrong , they are bloody fantastic tyres, but they go VERY squidgy really quickly when used on a Bird.. The bike is just too heavy for the construction..

010's also make the Bird wallow under hard acceleration out of bend's, again due to the soft sidewall's:eek:
