i am really pissed off cos like i said i was with them nearly 15 years, and one car i had, spent more time in the hands of the aa than in my own! and i have no complaints whatsoever, they even dealt with my embarresed ranting when i had to call em out 5 times in one night (each time the guy got there the car would start up again:eek: ) but i asked the question over the phone "will i be covered when on my bike" she said no , and i'v got witnesses m'lud

Carol Nash give you free Europe breakdown cover if you take out their insurance. They came and picked me up at the Dartford Tunnel today inside 30 mins. Didn't cost me a bean but I gave the driver a 'drink'. RESULT!!!!

The vast majority of these companies are 'breakdown' companies

i.e. if your vehicle breaks down, they turn-up and fix it and/or get you home.

Some of them have 'accident' recovery, but many of them don't. Now this is when the vehicle is involved in an accident and is not repairable. Some will recover you in these circumstances, but will charge you for the pleasure.

BUT

what happens if YOU have an accident (say, you fall and break your collar-bone) and are unable to ride/drive. There are VERY FEW with this cover.

It was after my little incident with the peds at the 2004 Bash, where I broke my collar-bone, that all of this came to light. I had the top 5 star cover with the AA and they would only recover me at the 'going rate' and I was 250 miles away from home.

I'm now with Norwich Union (the car and the van are insured with them).
It is a personal cover with named vehicles and the bike is the second named vehicle. They will recover to home /destination, bike rider & pillion, after any personal accident that meant I could not ride.

ALSO, they are very nice people and have just added continental cover onto the remaining 2 month of the annual policy FOR FREE!

Q let me clarify this the AA for years would recover you and your vehicle free of charge in an accident situation.
If you were taken to hospital then your vehicle could be recovered without you.
Then they changed the policy so that if you were fully comp and were going to make a claim from your insurance they would then charge, whether it was to you direct or bill your insurance later you would then submit the bill to your insurance for reimbursement.
However if you were only 3rd party or were not going to make a claim they would not charge.
This was not always made clear by the call handler when a member phoned in.
The Policy has now been changed back to inc accident recovery with no claim for reimbursement from your insurance.
I did not post on here to drum up business for myself I did it so if any peeps were thinking of taking out AA cover I could offer them my concession of 25% off for family and friends my commission is then forfeit.

Does anyone else use...........

Brittania Rescue ?

Got onto them via the CSMA and have their top cover and have nothing but praise for them and their agents. I have used them lots and have very rarely had to wait more than 30 mins to be collected, I am covered in any vehicle whether driving or not and so is the wife. They also send out a recovery questionairre after each incident.

My twopenneth

Is it tuesday yet ??

Baz.
