Interesting BP fuel vs the rest

Since owning my Tiger 955i, I've steered away from supermarket fuel where I can & mostly filled up at my local BP garage. In my ownership (since July 2018) it's been averaging 47mpg - I track my fuel usage using Fuelly.

In June this year, the garage was taken over by 'persons of a certain origin and immediately put the fuel prices up. What was usually at least 1p lower per litre than any garage around, is now 1p more for petrol & 2p more for diesel. so I've stopped using them. I now go to the filling station in town which sells Texaco fuel.

Since I've switched brands, my fuel consumption has increased to 53mpg.

I thouight I'd take a look back at every record where the fuel was over 50mpg & found they corresponded with the previous tankfull being NOT BP fuel, a couple were Tesco and one Sainsbury's, the others were all Texaco.

This is based on 42 fuel ups, full tank each time and just short of 6500 miles, so not a lot of miles over the years but enough to indicate to me that BP fuel is not the best out there.

Think in future I'll give BP a miss.

All fuel is pretty much the same, it’s the additives that make the difference, also if you’re drawing fuel from near the bottom of the tank you could be getting all sorts of shite.

He'd be pretty unlucky to have drawn fuel from the bottom of the tank on every occasion.

I use V Power petrol in the two wheeled Panzer and V Power diesel in the four wheel Panzer. Ok, its not the cheapest and usually over 20p per litre more than the local supermarkets but I point blank refuse to use supermarket fuel.

I am not sure how it works but shell, bp and texaco all draw fuel from Kingsbury oil depot just up the road from me so there cant be that much difference in the base product, must be whatever they add for different customers ?

Fuel is like food insofar as it has a calorific value. The more calories it has, the more efficient it makes the car perform. So yes, it boils down to what each company adds to the fuel.

In ships’ charter parties (hire contracts) the owners will usually stipulate the minimum calorific value that the charterers must use.

Still, as we say in Devon “That’ll learn ee bey”.

'Since I've switched brands, my fuel consumption has increased to 53mpg.'

Surely, your consumption has decreased, as you are using less.

The one just before Kirby Lonsdale they had a camera van on the A65 straight that runs up pass Clapham by the sewage works, numb nuts here didn’t spot it and thought it a good idea to overtake a line of slow moving traffic with nothing coming the other way .
