Totally agree! But both are nothing more than vainglorious legacy projects that would be better spent in improving infrastructure and support in the wider community.
I know 2 people directly affected by hs2, one has had his house compulsory purchased at well below the market value, the other a farmer has had his land split in half & they have refused to provide an access bridge meaning an almost 5 mile drive to work part of his land.
The farmer in particular has been hit hard as its arable land & what he has been paid for it will just about cover getting to and from it in heavy machinery for the next 5 years or so after that he is on his own meaning his crops will cost more to produce so his profit will be much less, he is now considering selling the land that has been in his family for over a 100 years but of course any buyer will have him over a barrel on price & if he does sell his income will be halved at best
