"THIS IS NOT A RANT"

For the last 3-4 years Ive had my BMF renewal come in and as regular as clockwork it turned up in the post..

Now the question is do i renew it or not after speaking to a few fellow bikers they have let theirs laps as they recon they do not get enough input from them they get a small mag now and again and thats it no upto date newsletters nothing..ummm

However I have allways thought its what goes on behind the seans that count eg lobbing government ect but how do you know on what dates they attend and what the oucome is as the people who I tend to mix with do not have internet acess

Do you sudscribe

I have been a member ( pretty active ) for many many years Richard.
Your right in a way in that an individual rider is often hard pushed to warrant the yearly membership fee.
But you must look at the overal picture.
At this point I am sure I am gonna get some flack, but I am only speaking as I find.
There are two riders organisations that are recogmised by the govt. when it comes to negotiation.
the BMF and MAG.
After , what 30 odd years, MAG are STILL going on about the helmet laws.. Since they started they have had very little success when dealing with govt bodies mainly because ( for many years ) their rep would attend such meetings looking like a well 'ard geezer.. Ok, his heart was in the right place and his intentions admirable, but you cannot expect a govt appointed board to look kindly on folk who apparently made no effort to be, as far as they are concerned, presentable.. Moving forward and MAG is still having trouble getting their very valid arguments across because the guys who represent them are ordinary joes like me and thee.
Sure, in a totalitarian 'all equal' world this is not a problem, but we know that in the real world it takes a wolf to catch a fox kinda thing..
The BMF on the other hand EMPLOY a small team of lawyers and politico's to represent the bikers of this country.
They do a bang up job on the whole. For instace, one of the recent 'wins' was the use of the M4 bus lane by bikers ),oh and many extra and secure parking bays up and down the country...
They are also still fighting our corner re dark visors. This issue has not gone away !
Also the BMF have recently managed to greatly reduce the regs re riding test that the EC wished to impose.
The EC wanted to have the brake/swerve manouver not at 31 mph but at 45mph ( I think) !
There are many other issues that could be sighted too, but this post is already turning in to a marathon !
As a BMF representative, I can assure others that their money is well spent for the benefit of all UK riders..
Almost all the people directly involved with the BMF are unpaid volenteers, with only the 'profesionals' getting any remuneration..
Pay that 23 quid a year or whatever it is now.. and be assured that as lobbyists for our cause the BMF are second to none !

Welll, there is plenty of info on the BMF web site ( BMF ) of course, including special deals on ferry crossings and the like, but if anyone would like to mail me with specific questions I will be happy to try and give answers :p
Oh, and I recently mailed them asking that as my membership does not come up for renewal until April.. will the free hat thing still be available..
Reply was: John, conform your address and we will send you one :)
If you enjoy biking in the UK I would urge you to join up.. Seriously, they work bloody hard for us all...

Top man Bubba !
The BMF needs all the members possible, as the EC becomes more and more virulent with its poke nose attitude to the Brit bikers..
The more members, he bigger the voice, the better the chance of our voice being heard against the wind of unwanted change..

After some 20 odd years of ripping up the road and not giving two hoots to the law or other road users,

I thought it was time to put somthing back in.

Joining the BMF to vote for my view on such matters as
Should bikes have Headlights Hard wired,
Dark visors on sunny days ect
was one way to do this.

I have been a Family member for the 5 years now and still think the BMF are doing a good job for us Bikers

If you want to get some Value for your member ship go to the BMF show held at the start of the summer!

I have been and they do a good Job.

Just my 2 penth worth

I'm a member, and have been for 5 years, I get good priced insurance through 'Direct insurance' they say they give BMF members a discount.

The BMF also do loads of local training, rallys, etc...

Well worth the yearly subscription!!
