Blue Flashing Lights

When I were a lad, I remember gettin me furst cage at 17.....hmmm I thought, what would look really good on this blue souped up Ford Anglia ! I know , some nice blue lights fitted on the dash, would look really good that. Nah you stupid boy, Dad said, plod would nick you as soon as you turned on the ignition, blue lights are ILLEGAL cos that's the colour for the security services.
Been over here in Brussels for four years now and saw the trend for blue lights start over here initially in truck cabs bout a year / 18months ago, then of course the boy racers took it to the next stage with two blue lights on the bonnet and /or in the front grille, I have slowed down on many occasion when a bastid Astra comes up behind you with these in the front grille.
Nowadays you get all sorts, effin lanterns, small blue eyes, the whole poxy road is covered in Blue and the result.... no bugger takes any notice of a real flashing blue lights., Now the cops, ambulance etc have to have the sirens screaming all the time and flash their headlights to get any bugger to move out of the way, people just ignore them if they only got their blue lights flashing.
Well bugger me (not really Bert) I realised on Friday night that it was the first time I have driven on a UK motorway in the dark for at least a six months ( usually fly back) and I was totally gobsmacked by the number of blue lights I saw, effin continental lorries I thought, well I nearly fell of me seat when I got on the lit part of the M25 and saw Tesco lorries wiv em as well !!!
Why do plod allow it, is it now legal ? Can I get some nice blue flashing ones on me Bird, that would clear the road better :)
The latest thing over here now is replacing the boot/roof mounted brake lights with a special unit that flashes first orange then blue then red as you put the brakes on, they can be adjusted apparently to make it flash red/blue/red/blue quite qickly as well.
What do you think guys......slippery slope and all that ??

blue light thing

I have also wondered at the legality of these blue lights

Also;

Another phenomena is when I glance in me mirror's at 140 mph
after passing upmarket cars with the special blue headlamp
bulbs is, with the vibration in the mirrors, they appear to have flashing blue grill lights and I spend the next few moments trying
to work if should make a run for it, whilst thinkin, how can I talk my way out of this!!!!

Know what you mean about the blue tinted headlights, have been caught out on more than one occasion thinking its plod behind me. surely these bulbs should be made illegal so as to give us half a chance.

Blue is the colour

I am certain that Construction & Use regulations pertaining to motor vehicles forbid any other colour than white to the front and red to the rear excepting indicators which must be orange.

The use of tinted headlamp covers is illegal.

By blue, do you mean these "stupid" little lights stuck to the wipers of "boy racers" or lights that give out a white/blue effect often found on up market cars (and trucks) ?

These are not illegal as the light given off is in fact white, although it looks like blue at source
I am sure I read that these blue aftermarket bulbs actually perform worse than the OEM parts fitted, but having driven an Audi recently, can confirm that these blue lights when fitted from new with the correct reflector lenses are fantastic

Hope I havent confused anyone!!!

Perhaps it just a South East thing

In Belgium they are everywhere, down the E40 to Calais they are everywhere and when I was on the M20 / M26 and M25 there were several lorries with them. Two bright blue lights mounted in the cab on the windscreen.
Maybe they switch them off when they get passed london.
You'll know when you first see em cos your first reaction is OMG - plod.

See 'em all the time going round the M25. You do wonder about the legal side of it.
