I have just spent the last three days...........can tell I am unemployed!...........trying to get this damn Magix DVD software to work. Or rather to burn the bloody disc. Bought the software ages ago, now have the burner............but the damn thing stops. Contact software folk, send me a very quick reply. Could i do this online system check thing. Yup, send that back. They reply, with... this is out of date please update, loads of stuff, graphic drivers, blah blah. Checked all before updating.

Start software again with lovely slideshow I have done for Derek and his track photos..........................6 hours later. Unable to complete process.

c7u8 Then I find my computer does not want to know my Dvd drives (x2)

Nowhere to be found. Drivers are in okay, computer tells me so! However, there seems to be a registry glitch! Drives open and close, but will not read or start up.

So thankfully I have two hard drives. Have transferred all important stuff to non-windows OS one, time to re-install!

Unless someone has a bright idea before tomorrow morning!!!

suddenly thought, if I can't get my cdrom drives to work, how am I going to get the windows cd to boot?? :h :dunno:

Hi There,from another unemployee.w;;v

Not too sure about these 'pooter thingies,but I seem to remember a similar thing happening to me when I fitted me Burner.It was to do with which drive you set as your master and which was the slave.

I don't know if you've done this,but before you installed the burner,did you change the position of the small plastic clip on the back?There's a plastic link between two of six pins.Where you position this link ,is I believe,what determines,which drive's gonna be the master or the slave.R#?

If you're still having probs,let me know,and I can find out more as my mate's a bit of a 'pooter nut and he built my system.my email is michael.clark53@ntlworld.com.

BIF, try this if your getting a code 31 error message.

There are two methods to resolve a problem like this.

Method 1

1 Remove the upperfilters and lowerfilters values completely from the registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

NOTE: If youare getting a code 39 message, it may be that additional thrid party filter drivers were added in addition to the Adaptec filter drivers. In that case, you may try to remove the non adaptec filter drivers first, leaving the Easy Creator filters in place to see if the code 39 goes away. If you still recieve an error code 39, 32 or 31 message, remove the upperfilters and lowerfilters valus completely in the registry key.

2 Restart the computer.

METHOD 2

If the above method does not resolve the code 31 error message and rstore access to your CD Roms, if you also have media player 7.0 installed, you can uninstall media player 7.0 and download and install the latest release posted at the microsoft website.

NOTE: There may be other third party software that exibits the same behavior. Some or all of these troubleshooting steps can apply to them if they also add entries under the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters registry values by either adding their filter drivers or by removing the registry keys and values outlined in this article that start with:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

well...........................

after doing everything I could think of. Uninstalling devices then restarting windows...........it found them, but could not get them working.............using the repair windows tool..............no......................Oh, and the CDrom drive worked fine with the XP disc in!!!

Eventually I just did a new installation of windows. Still doing all the updates and stuff and getting some programs back on. Email, internet, printers etc all up and working and so are my DVD drives!!!!!

I suppose its not bad, start again with a clean slate! Would be nice if life was like that, get fed up with all the shit then just re-install life and start again!! Hmmm...........bit deep that!

Anyway, so far so good. Oh, I also get an email back from the software folk who have caused all the bloody problems to say, they forgot to mention but it could be drive with the RAM copying facility, ie. my new one, may need to have that facility disabled as it could interfere with normal burning with their software..............sod off, I shall buy something else!!!

I have to say though in their defence they have been very very quick with support replies.
