Daughter at Uni in London, borrowed wife's car to go to Isle of Wight Bestival, via her flat in Clapham. Apparently she stopped in Clapham high street while her passenger nipped into a shop for a bottle of water. Just received a penalty charge notice from Transport for London, she apparently stopped on a red route / clearway.
Penalty ?130, reduced to ?65 if paid within 21 days, or they'll set the bailiffs on us. Nice. :bang:

No they don't.
Yes it was.
She thinks she's dealing with the Treasury, not a simple bank! :-0)

It's described as a Red route / clearway on the notice :dunno: There is a very diligent camera operator covering Clapham high street looking down on everyone, as the digital photo proves. To be honest we were in London recently and there was a confusing amount of coloured lines on different roads, and unless you travel there frequently who knows what they all mean.

Talking of which
Broke down in Enfield once, grill on the wagon was up, cab half lifted, then some little scroat on a moped came along & tried to give me a feckin ticket :wank:. When I told him where he could shove it, he got onto his boss, so I got onto mine & the plod. They told him where to go after they arrived as well :-0). London...feckin hate the place :bang:

( TFL) AKA taliban for London :wank: ,
red route means no stopping at any time and even the red dashed loading bays are off limits unless you are disabled or a hackney cab or your actually loading or unloading , 20 minutes max @tu*

Fight it!

Many things wrong with TFL and scamera enforcement. Search PEPIPOO on the interweb and see what that has to say. Don't just cough up the dosh, it's worth a punt at fighting it.

I got caught in a box junction on The Embankment, in London, last year whilst moving to let an ambulance through and received a fine (with photographic evidence). Because there was photographic evidence i just paid up - as it took me over an hour to crawl down towards Chelsea they must have got loads of people that evening and made a fortune. A few weeks later I saw an article saying that they pressurise people into paying up, but those that dispute the fine very rarely go to court / hearing as they don't have the resources. Plus, they make enough money off of those that actually paid at the initial state. There were some people that even commented that they hadn't paid a fine in 10 years despite receiving parking fines on a weekly basis. I wish I'd now contested it! Good luck in whatever you decide

you won't get let off for parking on double red lines .
Red route controls are enforced by the police and TfL enforcement staff.
if you choose to fight it jono your daughter may end up in a magistrates courts with the added expense that entails .

what your daughter received isn't a "normal" parking ticket (yellow lines) which are enforced by the local council , they are worth fighting

red routes....
single red line means no stopping during working hours
double red line means no stopping at any time

Sorry but that is not totally correct. TfL enforce red route contraventions under The Traffic Management Act 2004. This is the legislation that provides for the Civil Enforcement of Parking Contraventions. The Penalty Charge Notice was issued by TfL. As far as I am aware the Metropoltan Police Service, like many Police Forces across the country, handed over enforcement of parking offences to the Local Authorities. Offences became contraventions. Fixed Penalty Notices became Penalty Charge Notices - in other words parking was decriminalised and became a civil matter. These matters do not get heard in Magistrates Court but should you dispute a PCN served by any of the London Authorities then you can take your dispute to an Adjudicator and the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service. There are some places like within the one square mile of The City of London that are still dealt with by the Criminal Justice sytem but as this was TfL it is an irrelevant fact. There are currently potential issues with legality of the notices served by TfL so go to Pepipoo and do some research!

For all of those of you who may receive a PCN then I urge you to fight it. There is much fun, maybe a little stress, in fighting these things and with a little bit of effort you get to keep the money in your pocket rather than lining theirs! PEPIPOO is the place to go...

funny you should say that . i stopped on one in twickenham a couple of years ago and a traffic warden made a bee line for me . as i argued the toss with that immigrant tosser the met turned up , did a u-turn in the road , wound down his window and said to the warden " if you don't knick him , we will "

Since decriminalisation of the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN), the Metropolitan Police Service has been enforcing traffic regulations under a special service agreement with TfL using Traffic Wardens and Traffic Police Community Support Officers

Sods bloody law that it is! LOL! That is not something I'm aware of.

However, I am guessing that the PCN issued to his daughter was by CCTV which is operated and enforced by TfL...

unfortunately , unless you can prove that they have made a mistake in issuing the PCN ,unlikely from what you have said , it's a black and white offence , sorry brok3

clearways are roads coming off red routes and won't always have any lines of any colour (some do though ) but will have signs informing you of the no stopping at any time malarkey :wank:

they're absolute arseholes down there and the minute signs they put up to inform are a piss take to , you need " six million dollar man " eyesight to read the fuckers

i hate working in the shithole
your daughter has my sympathies jono
