Blackbird bhp

How come i keep seeing different bhp figures quoted on different magazines/websites?

The recent blackbird feature in RIDE quoted 135bhp but on the MCN review section they quote 164bhp.

As standard it is very very rare to find a bird that is not between 133.5 and 134.5 ( yes, they really are all made that well )

You often see people post up some amazing figures.. but it is not the owners fault, it is simply a lot of rolling roads are set to flatter rather than tell the truth.

After maybe a thousand plus runs on three different ( well maintained and well regularly set up ) rolling roads I do not think I have seen more than 4 or 5 that have been out side those figures

Thanks John,

Why did RIDE quote the zzr1400 at 200bhp, zzr1200 at 160bhp and the bmw k1200s at 165bhp.

Surely these must be engine output or have things moved on that much?

Honestly got no idea mate.. While I know a wee bit about the Bird, I know sweet fanny adams about the others mentioned :p

But a quick google on the Kwak and it looks like 165 BH at the rear wheel is about right..

have a look at this ( these are people who have gained considerable respect in the game for their extremely accurate dyno machine which is set up pretty much daily even taking in to account the humidity and pressure )

my standard 97 model puts 143.92 RWBHP and 86ft/lb torque

no 2 dynos will ever give same readings and as John says some mags put crank bhp instead or RWHP

mine had a dip around 5.5krpm think thats emissions but a lovely flat torque curve

ram -air system is introduced. It provides engine with more air at high speeds (above 200 km/h/120 mph) using aerodynamic pressure, thus raising power output to a claimed 164 bhp (122 kW) at 9,500 rpm (at the crank).

I can show you a graph of a Bird that is standard and producing 155 BH.. absolute tosh of course !

I would take it over to Sea Star Super Bikes if you want an accurate measure of power @tu*

or use the list of APPROVED peeps, know 2 in herts, but no beds approved peeps.

and a rolling road is only good to show what difference you have made to the bike, with the tinkering you have done. I know of one place that lost their aprovement do to massive increases shown in bhp for a slip of expensive slip on cans.

Mind you, it IS a carbie . . . :yo:

I think on average, bikes tend to have about 15% transmission loss twixt crank & wheel.

15%-20% i was told once, by a dyno man, with lots of stuff to affect the bhp. right down to what engine oil weight you are using.

They don't.. only from model to model, so carb ones will do x speed, pre dig efi ones y speed, and digi dash efi z speed

And the reason different models produce different top ends is cos the way the ECU controls what the engine delivers as various revs.

The later EFI ones tail the BH off earlier than the early ones.. and the carb ones .. well the ECU is pretty darned basic and just keeps it where it as good as possible all the way up
