First i am new to this site so hello to everyone!! w;;v

Right to start has anyone dynoed thier blackbird? I dynoed my 1997 (XXW carb) blackbird two weeks ago and got 142 Bhp on the backwheel and my bike is completely stock!!

I also raced at woodbridge last week and got 11.24s on the standing 1/4 and a top speed of 171.64 on a flyer!

Has anyone done anything similar? If so what results did you get?

Hiya Ken w;;v ,

Welcome to the forums (ahem, ahhhhh, well....... yes) a place where all is revealed!!

I got 290Km/h (179Mph) on a very long, deserted road here in Dubai on my 2002 bird. I wish my GPS (Garmin GPS V) logged the maximum speed but it doesn't have that function. Suffice it to say I chickened-out before the bike did....... I was also going down a slight hill, so that certainly helped!

As for putting it on a Dyno, I haven't put mine on one....... the boys here in Dubai have opened up a new bike shop (go to http://www.raceworldme.com) so I'll put my bike on the thing when it arrives.

I recently installed a K&N air filter - man what a difference it makes!!! And with some free-flowing Devil SB2 cans, the bike goes like shite of a shovel!!

Too fast for me!!

K&N

Just about to get a K&N filter and a 4-2-1 exhaust ready for the next race in july and will have to get the bike dynoed in two weeks when all the parts turn up!!!:yo:

Done 1/4 in 11,002s and measured speed was 207km/h. this on a 1997 Bird with two yoshi slip-ons. Was in the process of fitting one size bigger jets and BMC filter, but I bought a 2001 model with a power commander, full yoshi system and performance filter, can't wait for next drag meeting.

Hiya Kenneth and welcome mate..

Might I suggest you find someone with a properly calibrated rolling road ? :p

Not being horrible, but I see this kinda thing so often it gets me down..

Why ? cos stock birds BH will vary between 131 and 134 ( give or take a . here and there ).. this from a good few hundred different Birds on the rolling roads..

Sorry to be a downer, but you get chatting to a group who are pretty intimate with birds and its best to know the truth rather than be rated down as a fibber after you walk away !! ( And of course you are not fibbing, but reporting what someone who should know has told you )

Ahhh... there is actually one possible exception.. If your bike is one of the first 600 ( 1996 with frame number up to 600 ) ( I think ) then maybe you are indeed getting that 142BH !

HI Jaws,

What is the reason for the 1st 600 putting out more horsepower than the later models?
Did they have to de-tune it for legal reasons?
Even if it puts out 132 - 134 or 142 BHP, it is awesome, more power than a lot of bird riders will ever need. It demands a lot of respect from any rider

This is pure postulation, based on known facts..

Ok, well you have got to think back to the late 1996 era.
That was the time when bike manufacturers were just getting a bit sensative about the bad press being attracted by the hyper bikes.. And dont forget, the Bird was indeed the ONLY one around at the time.

The very first tests reported genuine top speeds ( using timing lights etc ) of in excess of 190MPH, yet within a short time the reported top speed had dropped to high 170's to low 180's.

I was lucky enough to get to play with one of the first.

The ONLY difference I ever found was different inlet tract rubbers ( very smooth with no ridges or rings inside ), but the rumour mill reckons the CDI unit was changed and quite possibley even the cam profile ( most of this is speculation though )

And thats really all I know .. not a lot !

But I have a piece of paper somewhere with a certified top speed of 184.6mph... and there aint too many Birds around that can do that in stock trim ! ( plenty that can see that on the speedo, but sad to say speedo's on the Bird are, on average 10% generous :bang: )

Dyno tested

I took the bike to SPR in Notts and stuck it on the Dyno Machine. The bike has one of Jaws' stock air filters on and a set of Microns (straight thru but with the required Eu marks !??).

141.3 BHP at the back wheel with a torque rating of 83ft lbs. To say i'm happy is an understatment!!:neenaw:

Topbird, if you read this, Billy's staying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not bad for a Bluebird!!!!!

SPR are brilliant. Used to take me gixer down there. Sam and his crew are top notch, no bullshit type of guys. And if ya into Ducatis then they are your men. They used to build duke racing engines all the time, and I do belive that one was actually borrowed by the works wsb team at Donnington many years ago.

Top fellas. Steve, did they happen to mention about a black 97 with microns??? And when ya coming round for a brew

Were keeping the boat know, only cos I spent all day yesterday cleaning it!!!!!!

Martin,

Sam didn't mention a BB, but then again i didn't ask. They are still really busy there, I was lucky they could fit me in.

Billy sounds bloody awesome when you're stood next to him at full pelt with those cans!!!

I'll give you a call next week some time, I've got to book in for a safety boat course a work!!

Be good mate.:yo:

Ambient Temp 27-33C

Std 2002, 135.93 bhp.

Post BlueFlame Evos (-baffles) , K&N and PowerCommander 143.3!

Lee Motorcycles (excellent and characterfull service)

However not tuned for max power but for less 'snatchiness' and most progresive throttle (now loads more progressive :)).
