Er, read it again……Why would you want to eat a scone “plain”? Would you just eat a plain slice of bread, or a dry Weetabix?
If jam first and cream on top isn’t on the menu, then an absolute favourite would be a cheese scone with a cream cheese filling. That also isn’t on your menu.

Best scone I ever tasted was at the cafe in Glamis Castle. Packed with sultanas and as big as a tea cup saucer (the scone, not the castle...feckin' eejit).
But...If I'm round at our friend's house then her Hebridean cheese scones would be my first choice. They're outstanding.
