BB back end

Hi all

I just joined and wondered if anyone had fitted a different, less bulky, maybe sporty seat to their BB.

Someone's done this to a Hayabusa and I wondered about a similar effect for a BB. First two pix, here:

If anyone has pictures/experiences/recommendations for somewhere to have this done, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

There are pics of an amazing bright red Bird somewhere with an R1 rear end - can't remember where though:-0).

What Honda should have done to the Bird in the first place...................

There's a German chap about 60 km from where I live in NZ who runs an outfit called House of Custom which does a lot of work on custom streetfighters and Harleys. I've got one of his paddock stands. I think he also has an outlet in Germany.

I noticed that he has a 'bird on his website with a custom back end (http://www.houseofcustom.co.nz/viewBike.php?id=13). At first, I thought it was pretty ugly but now I quite like it because it hasn't got that "sameness" of Gixxers and R1's. Guess that beauty is in the eye of the beholder - at least it's the right colour and not gay red gr0n:

Jeeezus that is fugly - it looks like a bulldog's arse and all out of proportion.:puke::puke: It wouldn't matter what colour you painted it, it'd still look all wrong.

For me the Blackbird is a design classic and is beautiful from any angle. I can't see why anyone would want to change it.

I guess you're right Geoff, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. (And wouldn't it be a boring world if it wasn't):-0)

You're right Phil, it is a design classic and it makes newer Honda models look pretty bloody ordinary. I like them as they are too but if I was going to change one, I wouldn't want it to have an arse like so many other sports bikes - what would be the point? I think that's why I like that bulky rear end more than I originally did.

If my Chief Financial Officer ever gave the nod for a second bike, I'd quite like a flat tracker replica rather than something faired.

Me too, Geoff. But only for sunny days as they take too much cleaning:-0)@tu*

The Blackbird is a classic design by default.

To me, changing it would be a bit like fiddling about with the lines on an E-type Jaguar, or a Spitfire: it would be little more than an exercise in futility.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; but perceptions become dulled by familiarity and the passage of time.

Our appreciation lessens and we take for granted what once was perceived as the ultimate in style, power, speed and prestige.

Don’t misunderstand me – the Blackbird could (and should) have been improved...

...but I don’t believe that any designer worth his/her salt would have stepped more than a few millimetres away from the bike’s original appearance.

The stuff about the E Type above would be spot on... if it wasn't somewhat spoiled by the fact that the E Type in the photo is far from stock, from the wheels and tyres to the ride height to the colour I could go on..... trust me, I know about these things;-0)).

In fact the photo proves that a bit of tasteful fettling can improve on the original.

And the Bird back end is still an awful piece of design, lardy old lump.

Yes, of course, Andrew ? but if you paid a little more attention to what?s actually written you?d see the point I made was about the original, impeccable and instantly-recognisable body lines of the E-type/Spitfire? regardless of any ?extras? that might be used to improve performance or, perhaps, to accentuate said lines.

Trust your knowledge or depth of design appreciation?

that looks so shit, too unbalance, like a cut and shut job.

Aye ? maybe it?s been taken a little bit too far ? but I can?t help wondering if the trimmed-down back end looks better when the bike's off the centre stand and settled on the suspension.

The lack of a left-hand can ruins the bike due to the less-than-impressive-looking swing arm, but the basic idea is sound. All the clutter?s been removed from mid-section. The wheels and after-market front fender take away a lot of the low-down bulkiness - and a perkier paint scheme would also help to ?slim? the bike down a bit, in my opinion.

...Anyway... Drivel over ? back ta the real world? :p

Feeble response. You know it and I know it.

Check your facts and accuracy before posting such misleading and inflammatory material.

To be honest I would save all that time, effort and money and just buy a gixxer 1000 in the first place rather than make a bird look like one.
