Battery and charging

On the last day of a weeks touring in Ireland there was nothing but a click from the starter solenoid. The battery (4 months old) had gone kapput big style. Even after 2hrs at 80mph there was no charge in the battery. Has anyone had any experience of any electrical/charging problem that can knacker a battery? or was it just a bad battery?:(

so i'm not the only one then ........

cos my battery failure in sunny Ashbourne (on the recent thrash around Wales) ended up being generator failure, along with the battery, (two actually, cos the new one we all thought was the culprit also got cooked).

It may well be the rectifier, but as a precaution, I'd get your genny checked aswell.

So this super reliable BBird thing is a bit of a myth then ........... .

Still effin bike less......

Update

The regulator/rectifier was goosed!

I have fitted a new (uprated) one from Electrex, and now have a nice and steady charging voltage.

NB The mod to add cooling fins to help heat distribution is only applicable to the older rectifiers (carb model). The EFI models had a higher alternator output and the rectifier is housed in a finned ali block.

oooh just noticed this one.
yep electrex do a good replacement lots cheaper than the standard one.
did you get the genny checked because that was the cause of my problem as well as the rectifier.(twice) i used a main honda dealer who lied to me (three times) so use my local small bikeshop who actually employ engineers charge me less and do not lie to me.
now my problems are no more and im thoroughly enjoying the bike at last .:D
