No idea, how are they charged? For example I’ve got Shorai Lithium in my T160 & Commando they charge from the alternator, but require a special charger to maintain them and charge them.

It is done by the BMS module

So what’s the consensus ??
Are these any good ?

Would I need an additional special charger ?

Or should I stick with a ‘normal’ battery …

LiOn are good for many reasons, but are expensive, do not like cold weather* and can be easily damaged
Also, depending on the type of cells being used can cause fires if damaged

*All but a few with built in heaters should NOT be charged below about -4C

Life of a lead acid about 4 to 5 years
Life of LiOn about 10 years

A lead acid safe to use down to about 50% charge ( likely to damage below that )
LiOn can be used down to about 10% with total safety

Lead acid does not rely on a BMS
LiOn relies on extra electronics ( in the case in point, built in to the battery I believe )

For me, in a bike application, I cannot warrant the extra cost

I however, could justify the extra cost when fitted to my Commando as it has a much higher CCA starting ability with my electric start kit. I fitted one to the Trident because I could and it is much smaller with a similar/slightly higher capacity.
As and when I get around to designing the electrical system on the Triton I will almost certainly use another Lithium for its smaller dimensions, and not for a need for capacity as it will only run headlights and stop lights. Nowt else. I may consider using a fully sealed battery, but I really want to hide away everything if I can.

In that case just get 3 cells ( something like 18650's ) and you could hide them anywhere ... even inside a frame tube !

Total cost about £9 :)

Depends on how big your ‘relaxation appliance’ is.

A further thought
Given Birds do not charge below 1500 rpm, you get in a traffic jam for more than a few minutes you are gonna end up pushing as the 4Ah will be depleted quite quickly

Realistically you need the 8Ah one at £199
Given the cells are about £3 a go and you would use about 8 maximum ( £23 and a bms ( CIRCA £20 for a good one ) to give you an 8Ah battery, if I WAS looking for a unit I would look else were

That could explain why the battery is giving up
….. mostly 20 mph commute to work !! It’s not charging most of the time :nusenuse:
