WTF is it with backs?? this weekend I have to concrete the rest of the driveway, next week strip all the wallpaper from upper hallway and bedroom, paint the new attic prior to papering it, paper the hall and bedroom and then put the Bike back together after swapping the fork lowers over, all in all a busy couple of weeks ahead,
so this morning after a 4am start, Im delivering to Thomas Abeckett school, when I pick up one case of Coke and "crack" me bloody back goes  I end up having to get someone to put my "trolly" back on the wagon, and then myself drive back to the depot, :dunno:
so now, Im sat here drugged up to the eyes with pain killers and anti inflamatorys with a week on the sick, Dr reckons it will take longer to get better, great, but Im booked off work from tuesday anyway :bang: WHY does this sort of thing always happen at the worst time possible???, anyone else have the same luck as me?? :dunno: feckin BAD!!

i know it sounds funny..but whenever my back plays up a bit i take the bike for a couple of hundred miles ride..get back and back will be fine, i guess its the angle on the bike and the stretching of the spine..but it works for me..bit diffrent if your at the pain killer stage tho
tip of the day.. if the pain comes back whilst still dosed up, pint of lager and hey presto 30 mins later no pain
get well soon anyway

I really should get a photo of the X rays of my spine, showing the screws and plates holding it all together. Serves me right I suppose for breaking it in the first place, mind you still managed to work like it for 6 months, once they saw what was wrong i realised why I had been in so much pain.

The bad luck thing is all in the mind. Is there ever a good time for it to happen?

It only becomes the worst time when it actually happens!!

I 'spect yer'll be awright for a good drink at Crimbo time mate.

To be honest you never had a bad back, if you had you wouldn't be able to get the bike of the stand never mind get your leg over it.
You'll know what I mean if it ever happens to yur.

Problem with backs

is that we are still designed to go on all fours most of the time like gorillas or chimps. About 50000 years from now we will have developed to the extent our backbones will be three times the thickness they are now and we will be fully developed to spend our time upright. in the meantime M8 spend your money on a good chiro who will hurt you in the short term but heal you in the lpong one. Good luck Rrobbo.

As a sufferer also try these gentle exercises,
1. Lie on a flat surface, knees raised feet flat on floor, and roll your knees from side to side gently, keeping the hips flat on the floor.

2. Lie on stomach and gently....very....lift your shoulders off the floor like a press up, but again keep your hips flat on the floor, just very gently arch your back, only small movements and if it hurts stop.

At night roll up a towel and place under the knees to keep the back in a neutral position by keeping the knees slightly bent.
Go for short walks and keep the back active, don't let it sieze up.
Hope this helps. :h

when Im feeling a little better I will be having a go at gentle exercise
I couldnt "get my leg over" a bike at the moment let alone reach for the "bars" so thats a "no no"

nope i know what a bad back is from a bike accident i had a few years back..hit a person with my lid at about 30 which knocked me out and made me fly off the back of the bike after smashing my spine on the grabrail
couldnt walk at all for 3 weeks and left me with permanant slipped disc with is also crushed and a permantant trapped nerve which means ive lost virtuly all upward movement in my right foot from the ankle forward..has come back with vengence a few times over the years which leaves me unable to walk even dosed on docs painkillers :bang: ..so back pain i DO know about
what i was saying in this post is when it starts to play up..ie feels stiff with a small amount of pain..which has in the past gone on to full bloan 2 weeks off work stuck in bed kinda thing
BTW IAN..if you wanna know about bad luck..my bike accident happened on xmas eve afternoon when the ambulances were on strike and i was carted on a stretcher in the back of a police van..and i felt every fooking pebble on the way to hospital :B
count yourself lucky if your not at the 30 min crawl on hands and knees to get to the toilet 5 metres away then your faced with how the fook to you get up and on the pan :}
lying flat with a pillow under your spine may help :dunno:

I fully sympathise with you hun  iv been waiting for an operation on my back for almost two & half years now, iv got to have the sciatic nerve killed in the lower part of my back, unfortunately pills don't work for me  but iv found that sometimes, well 89% of the time either a brisk massage in the said area helps (doesn't remove the pain just eases it a bit) or a cold compress helps, iv got a bag thats filled with a jelly stuff and you put it in the freezer, it doesn't go hard but goes extremely cold, (mines in the freezer on a Permanent basis) and place it on the point of pain, its cold, then it feels like someone is stabbing you with hundreds of little needles, then if its a good day the pain goes completely if its not such a good day then at least the pain eases.

Most people think that you have to use heat but thats not always the case, give it a try, I got my bag thingy from boots cost me about ?7.50 I think. If you want any further advice or help give me a shout and i'll do me best

Take it easy Tracey x

For those of you in London area, I suggest the BSO - British School of Ostheopathy
http://www.bso.ac.uk/
The way it works:
You are seen by students 3rd or 4th (last year) under the supervision of a tutor who is a top dog. I recommend you ask for Team 4, and Tom Conba as a tutor - he is an ex-biker, had crashed himself and therefore can relate to pain. Students do not treat vital parts like neck so the tutor does you, and even for non-vital parts the tutor is still hands-on.
Chiropracthy is also very good but limited (their study of neurology is inferior to the one of osteopathy, where it is comprehensive)
The other great thing about the BSO is that the treatment costs only ?16 (after first time in which they take your history etc, which costs ?19) - as opposed to private treatments of up to ?80 a pop.
After my crash last year, spinal injury, neck brace for 4 months, found them through my gf who is studying there, and Tom (the tutor mentionned above for those with a short memory) is just amazing. There you go.
