Ok.... Rider training

By the posts I have seen on here it seems a good idea to get some,
but where do you start, :dunno: I know you get better insurance quotes if you have some sort of training so what types are there, and what is the best type to go for ? advanced rider, roadcraft, a day out with a guy, what should you be looking at paying ?, how long are the courses ?, what should you avoid as a waste of money, there are a lot of classroom courses but are they any good for the road.
I know bob Pinder is the best one to chat to but there must be more people out there that have had good :} and bad experiences :B with some sort of training,
any help :h would be good any piss taking will roll off the ducks back man8um ,
the thread has started lets hope it gets some useful info from it.

Don't look for training advice on this site m8. most of them just polish their status symbols and pontificate. :puke:

Rider Training

I think the answer depends on where you are starting from(skills perspective not location c7u8 ) I found IAM training to be very effective and comparitively cheap ?85 to get you up to the level to pass your IAM test so it could take 3 months or 1 year. The examiners are serving Police Officers who can ride very well :bow: Further advanced training is also recommended - my club uses Rapid Training for this but the costs increase to around ?150 per day.
Hope this helps

Quacky
You probably know this, but not ALL insurance company's give discount for advanced courses completed, etc.. You might want to check with your existing insurance if this is a factor.
I did some advanced training with MAC a couple of year back and it was excellent as a refresher/heads up, however MAC disbanded when Honda pulled the financial plug on 'em. Have a word with Bob Pinder though, as he is very well qualified and not a million miles away from you :beer:
Alternatively, you could try your local IAM group http://www.solent-advanced-motorcyclists.co.uk/ :beer:

I find it rather interesting to observe that the ones who critic do not offer any kind of constructive contribution. Instead of that type of sterile behaviour, why not offer help or knowledge?

Clive: or at least they used to be... Our own T.C. who was in the board of it slammed the RoSPA door few months ago - for those who don't know Tony Carter was the daddies of all daddies, training the instructors such as Bobby Pinderi who teach advanced riding - he even participated to the writing of Roadcraft I believe... Tony over to you!

Personally the cost of insurance is a mere bagatelle compared to the safety aspect of additional training. Bollocks to the insurance saving, think of the potential life saving.

I would reccommend Bob as I have ridden with him (on what?) but you need to be receptive to learn.

that's me stuffed then :rolleyes: :}

AWWWWWWWWWW FOOK
I have to agree with Lumpy on this one :bang: :xm :xm

yeah you may save a quid or 2 on insurance premium but compared to how much you might lose on rebuilding after a smash or losing NCB if you claim then i reckon advanced course of some sort is well worth it R#?

I told you the persona of being a complete and utter twat was just a ruse to make friends. Somethimes I think I'm too good at it and people may actually believe it? :xm :}
