Autocom Fitted!

Fitted the autocom unit I bought at the show on Friday.
Can't believe how easy it was. Took the ignition on live supply from the wires to the back brake light switch by the relays, so simple.

For the moment the unit is just tucked under the rubber strap retaining the electrical gubbins in the tail unit.

Works brilliantly and the mobile phone thingy gives brilliant reception/speech. Like it says callers can't really tell it's a bike. With the added advantage that both rider and passenger can take part in the conversation.

Just need to try the music tomorrow.

Might start looking around for a cheap radio for bike to bike now.

Anyway, defo good value with the current half price deal.

Stuey - I've just e-mailed them to ask does the sale only apply to visitors to the show.

Rough and Ready got one

Rough and Ready got one at half price.

Well they based the discount on the fact he wouldn't need the earpiece as no fooker ever talks to him anyway!

So far fitted for 6 weeks and he still hasn't realised that anything is wrong!

Hello?.....................Hello?.....................Hello?.....................Hello?

I had a look on eBay to see what price Autocoms are going for and found a couple of dealers selling them at half price.

So I bought Kit 6 plus extra headset and extension leads for 140 quid plus 3 postage. That saves me the cost of going down there to get kitted out, and this particular seller had marcusfordus in amongst his feedback, which helped sway me with the purchase.

Here it is

Autocom

I did get mine off ebay and it works just fine ( kit 6 ), went to the NEC and bought their phone adaptor for my Sony mobile and additional power lead, they told me there is a complete all singing all dancing load of kit coming out soon, wouldn't tell me anymore.
Could it be fully bluetooth and wire free ?

I feel sorry for all those people trying to sell their own 2nd hand kit now for proper money on ebay.

There was a huge MCN advert last week with the sale details on it, and you can order direct.

The one thing I was disapointed with, was the way the additional power lead connects into the main unit. Mine has the internal 9v battery to run it totally portable from the bike or bikes, but if you do want bike power, you have to remove the battery and stick in the wiring multiplug, not really quick enough and certainly fiddly, wouldn't think it would last too long as it is quite delicate. A simple jack-plug would have been a much better idea.

I asked the guy on the Autocom stand as to why they were selling them off cheap.

The story he fed me was that they are bringing out newer, slightly improved models next year and so wanted to clear the old stock.

They could be going bust

Then where would your after-sales service go?

Just a thought - a compnay with a decent product and reputation selling at heavily discounted prices?

I smell a "rat"

I asked the guys on the Autocom stand at the show today what was new for next year. He told me that their systems would have seperate volume controls for rider and pillion, capacity to use 2 phones at once and have privacy from rider/pillion whilst on the phone etc etc, so nothing ground breaking in that sense.
I then asked him about wireless helmet sets, and he replied that they had looked in to these, but the biggest barrier they were facing was battery life on the helmet set. So don't hold your breath.
