I can help you with some advice, my dad did the trip on his CB500 last year, he's 68, has done 70k on his 2000 model CB, he's dyslexic (he did set off for Swansea but got the map wrong), he did the trip a different way to most and many have failed.
I will scan and post some images for you, i'll give you my e-mail address, leave me your number and i'll get him to call you with some pointers and advice..

Thanks Rhino, that's very kind of you mate. We're hoping to get some sponsorship from work (if we don't we won't have the money or time off to do it this year), I'll keep you informed.

Once again - many thanks.

No problem RODS, my old man will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
He went with the most simple navigation aids, a compas and terrain map, i'll get some pics scanned and downloaded soon and post them up on here.

Alcohol in Norway

Take some with you - Its VERY pricey and some whiskey miniatures can be used as sweeteners.

I have no experience of riding there, but I went skiing in Opdal a few years ago and liked the country. The roads around there should be good for biking and the scenery is spectacular.

Little Blighters!

Dont forget the Mosquito / Insect repellent as during the Summer up there, there are swarms of the Buggers, and a good visor cleaner! The Scenery is stunning and daylight nearly 24 hours a day. Went there with the Navy once, and as a previous thread said, everything is expensive. Have a great time. :yo:

Spent every winter there from December / January to march / April from 1976 to 1990 doing Arctic warfare / survival instruction, mostly up north around Narvik, Harstadt, and Tromso, and sometimes further up around the border. June should be OK weather wise, mosquito's may be a problem then as the lower areas are still wet from the winter melts, some of the roads are a little rough after the freeze and thawing they have to endure, people are nice and friendly, views around the fjords are spectacular, beer and spirits are expensive as is the food, zero tolerance as regards drink drive, go to jail if you are caught, on the spot fines for excess speed. Enjoy. :yo:

This is on my wishlist as a must do. I'd be interested in hearing your experiences once you have completed your trip. I've made tentative enquiries for future use and been given the following info.

Newcastle to Bergen is probably the furthest north you can get in Norway by ferry from the UK.
Norway is rediculously expensive.
June is best if going to Nordcap.
Police are red hot on speeding.
