Hi Guys,

Please could you advise if there are any rideouts in Dorset scheduled in the near future, or if anyone wants to start one, just let me know.

Cheers

Will you all fit on the back of a low loader?

Probably not and hopefully your bike won't end up on one in Liverpool.

Well if no one in Dorset can be bothered, I would be glad to join the Liverpool lot, they seem to be a friendly bunch up north having gone through many a time on my way to the TT and after all, the bike is made for riding.

Dave, my reply was intended to be a repost to big harv's Dorset yokel jibe.

Got as far as Mold ourselves over Easter when we went around Wales. Visiting the Wirral 13th May to see all of its lighthouses including The Hoylake, Leasowe and Perch Rock. The wife's from Portland you see so we're into lighthouses in a big way. You'll understand living in Weymouth. Strange folk from Portland.:p

 No worries, been living in Wyke Regis in Weymouth for 3 years now and being that close to Portland obviously rubbing off on us. May see you out and about then.

Okay no problem, may take you up on that offer when up that way. Same if you ever down in sunny Weymouth.

Dave, I've just seen this one - twas away for a few days on four wheels (Thruxton BSB) so missed the original post. Besides, my mind isn't totally on two wheels at the moment as I need to get the 'Bird sorted (this weekend all being well).

As Smix said, I was thinking of organising something down this way in the next month or so. Maybe toward the middle or end of May (trying not to clash with TT fortnight). I've so far only got round to thinking about it and haven't planned anything as yet (been hectic at work etc.), but watch this space.

Chances are it'll be in the Dorset / Somerset / Wiltshire borders area... I like the idea of taking a few 'Birds up Zig Zag hill, then Cranborne Chase, etc... :yo: I need to have a think... PM me (or post) any ideas for roads and stop offs that you may know and like...

And my sincere apologies for having to live quite so near to Fraggle Rock. h1d1ng2

Sorry for being too sensitive and out of context. Says a lot about me that I pictured a bunch of guys chewing straw with their feet hanging over the back of a trailer as a Dorset rideout.

Don't know when we get there. We're doing the Welsh Rally on the 12th which starts and ends at Castle Caereinion near Welshpool. Staying at the Travelodge in Wrexham that night. Last year we started riding 8am Saturday morning and got to the Travelodge around 2am Sunday morning. We do a lot of rallying and we're doing the Round Britain Rally which has landmarks in the Wirral to visit. A bit like geocaching on a motorbike. We enjoy doing it. So that's what we're up to on the Sunday. Should be in the area around midday I guess?

Fraggle Rock! Just don't mention rabbits.

Let me know when you're out for a ride. I like the twisties but I'm not a speed merchant. Zig zag sounds good to me. Dorchester top-of-town cafe is a good place to meet in the centre. Hunter's Lodge used to be a good meet.

Dave, I lived in Wyke many years ago on Buxton Road just where the little roundabout is. They've built a load of houses where I used to rent. Got knocked off a Honda 400F many years ago when the roundabout wasn't there and a car pulled out on me. Happy days.

Sounds good,

I do not know where zig zag is, however am prepared to travel. I also know a good ride down to Bridport where a few bikers hang out. Nice tea and burgers. Will go on the hunt to see if can find any other routes over next couple of weekends.

Cheers chaps, just let me know when we need to make arrangements.

Have a good weekend at your bash.

Go to Shaftesbury, then leave via the east on the B3081. Turn left in Cann Common then go up...

Not exactly an alpine mountain but good hairpin practice nonetheless. It opens out all the way to Ringwood...

Ah, the B3157 perchance. Nice burgers at West Bay...

If you're free on the 29th, drop me a PM or email at sclera1000@hotmail.com and we can go for a bimble...

Compton Abbas airfield is getting to be a popular stop if you're zig zag way.

Yes, West Bay is a popular run from here. A nice ride is to turn off the A37 just outside Dorchester, take the A356 to Beaminster and circle into Bridport from there.

Compton Abbas is no more. Well not this year anyway. Word is that they reckoned last year's bike nights were not popular (I must have gone on busy nights then!) so they're not running them - but they may change their mind for next year... I guess there's nothing to stop people turning up there anyway...

The Beaminster road is nice. Good stretch by the radio antennae, officer... Normally go as far as Crewkerne and then back down. Or make a run of it and go up to Yeovil via Sherborne, then west and down...

Fancy coming along for a bimble next Sunday then Fairb?

Sounds a good idea. If it's OK can I confirm with you guys by next Friday? Have a few things on at the moment but should be OK. Just be gentle with me.

I'm surprised about Compton Abbas because it always seemed popular to me. I like going there anyway. If you're lucky there's someone doing acrobatics in that Yak team based there. It's also the best road to get from Wimborne to Shaftesbury.

Frenchie's is the usual place we visit for some chips. I don't know if he's still doing boar burgers? He was last time I was there.

Birds Go Mad In Dorset

Dave, you've got mail!

If anyone's interested, I'm doing a ride round Dorset on Sunday.

Maybe just two or three 'Birds coming along at the moment, but it's open to anyone else if they want to see some of the countryside round these thar parts.

But if you do tag along, beware. I've never led a ride in my life so don't be surprised if we get lost or whatever.

Anyhow, the rough plan is to leave the Top Of Town car park cafe in Dorchester at 10:45hrs on Sunday the 29th, and then go;

Dorchester
A352 to Sherborne
A30 to Shaftesbury
B3081 over Zig Zag hill to Cranborne
B3078 to Wimborne
B3082 to Blandford
A354 to Milborne St Andrew
A few back lanes to Piddletrenthide
B3143 and back lanes to Maiden Newton
A356 to either Crewkerne or Beaminster,
Then A3066 or B3162 to Bridport and West Bay for a boar burger.

Or something like that.

If anyone's interested, drop me a PM or post up here so I've a rough idea of how many bikes I'm going to lose...

It would be good to see you down these parts Smix. :yo:

Rain? What's that? We've got some wet sunshine here at the mo, but I'm assured that some dry sunshine, dry roads and ideal temperatures should be here by Sunday.

Electrical Gremlins are NOT invited! :bang:

Oh, and I've still got a Wessex Rideout (Somerset / Wiltshire area approx.) planned in the back of my mind for mid June or so... I'll probably be in touch nearer the time, post TT Fortnight, to rack your brains for road ideas...
