Hi

New to the forum...fairly new to biking...almost new to a Bird. I'm getting it tomorrow, an I'm like a kid before Christmas. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

My story is, I had a moped many years ago, which I completely hated. Thought it had put me off bikes for good, but then a young mate offered me a blat through the Lake District, this time last year. I had a great day, but decided pillion wasn't good enough, I wanted to ride. I bought every mag on the shelf, persuaded the missus I was serious, signed up for CBT and then DAS, failed the Theory test :xm , which put it all back a few weeks, then got my licence in December. I'd bought a Fazer, and have been out on it a lot - I love it. I've done 4k miles on it through the winter, but the better weather is just brilliant.

Anyway, when I bought all those mags, the one bike that jumped off the page at me was a Blackbird. As soon as I saw it, I said 'I'm going to have one of those, one of these days'. That day is TOMORROW! I'm quite tall, and the wife has decided she likes coming out with me, and the Fazer is not really that comfy TBH, so when I saw this BB advertised in the local rag, I just had to go and have a look.

It's beautiful. R reg, 11900 miles, black, spotless, ?3650. Seemed like a fair price to me, so I asked for a test run. Wow! I could not believe the difference...so smooth, so powerful, so much presence on the road, so comfortable both one-up and two-up. I just had to have it. Insurance? Lots wouldn't touch me...bike is too powerful/fast, less than a year's experience, no NCD...but MCE did the business, and my age helped  ...?360 TPFT.

So, I'm all set for tomorrow. Work will drag...I'll be watching the clock, wanting to be home to get on the new bike.

Am I mad? Is it too much of a handful for someone with my lack of experience? Time will tell.

Anyway, any advice gratefully received, and I'll look forward to maybe meeting up with some more Birds in the NW sometime.

Cheers

Welcome Sam, take it easy out there.
You should be OK on a black one though - a blue one might have been a bit of a handful.

Can you see my grin? It's split my visor...an it could split this monitor!

Collected the Bird tonight, and had a wonderful ride home. It IS deceptively easy to ride....so much smoother than the fazer, so much more responsive, so much more aerodynamic. I was surprised...usually I wear ear-plugs cos the wind blast noise is bad in my flip-front lid, but today I didn't. I thought the noise would remind me to be sensible about the speed. It didn't! There was much less noise even though there was more speed than I've ever done on the fazer...only briefly, and on a long, straight road. I am going to take it easy...I know I've got a lot to learn still, but thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the tips.
