I do agree that the response to this is likely to be of an order of magnitude.
That in itself might well shatter the recent diplomatic moves towards solutions - and might well have been the intent.

The Egyptian intelligence service apparently gave the Israeli government a heads up ten days before these atrocities occurred.
The Israelis however have denied all knowledge of that contact with the Egyptians.
Makes you wonder.

Sounds like a classic case of thesis antithesis synthesis.
Action plus reaction equals solution. A political strategy since time immemorial guaranteed to achieve public support backing action that was already decided on some time before. Very clever, very machevellian, very effective.
Unfortunately mostly the innocent suffer.

My Father used to teach Arabs & Israelis in the same classes at RAF Cranwell, he described them as friends who were being trained to kill each other
He said they were as untrustworthy as each other (he really hated Jews) when my eldest brother bought his first house he went to a (Jewish owned) furniture shop in Leeds to buy stuff for his house, my Father said “when they shake your hand on the deal check you’ve still got your watch”
