I remember going to see the film Schindler’s list, a friend said “take plenty of tissues” I don’t know why, there was nothing to wank over

One of my oppos would drink a bottle of vodka first thing in the morning....a few shorts in the pub at lunchtime....and then whatever he could lay his hands on in the evening.
He did that for 2 years, while working full time and living in his car. The thing was, he was excellent at his job, almost never had time off (apart from leave), he always showed up on time, he was always clean and shaved every day and he was always happy to do overtime.... and so the bosses turned a blind eye.

One day he met a woman and she pretty much saved him.
Similar story...
The mate I mentioned earlier (now thankfully clean and sober) continued to work and never missed a day even through drink although the rest of his life was a complete shambles

I watched a documentary on Sky yesterday ‘Risky Drinking’ which was essentially the story of four alcoholics and how it affected their lives - well, worth a watch. Three of them were able to drink the most ridiculous amount of alcohol and still, function (up to appoint).

i had two cans of cider while watching the football last night and it gave me a headache.

You need to ditch the White Lightning and buy better quality cider. That stuff disolves teeth.

Grew up in the South West where scrumpy was the drink to go for, especially the stuff you ladled out of vats, scraped the straw off the top then served in shot glasses. Many a grockle came a cropper drinking that stuff.

When I was 20, I worked in a pub for an alcoholic landlord, not the best trade for an alcoholic but he probably thought different. Looking back, I too probably had a drink problem, I would think nothing of downing a bottle of vodka in an evening after drinking pints most of the day. Had quite a few alcoholics as regulars & also saw the damage, mental * physical of too much but my age made me immune to such truths.

When I left the trade, I didn't touch a drop of alcohol for 18 months & I think that probably saved me. I do drink still, the odd wine with dinner of a weekend & a few bottles of beer on family get-to-gethers, but I haven't been drunk for years. just don't see the point anymore. About 3 pints of good beer is about my limit, probably enough to put me over the limit if I was to drive the next morning (so I don't)

Towards the end of the Month when money was rapidly depleting, us matelots would resort to drinking scrumpy, evil stuff, even thinking about it gives me a headache.

I remember while on leave in the early 80's, stopping with a mate from Redruth.

We went to his local, a bikers pub, where the bar staff would only let me drink the scrumpy by the half pint. I don't remember what happened after the third one and the next day I had a sore face and hangover that lasted all day and would've crippled an elephant.

I buy myself a bottle of wine when I get paid and have one glass in the evening until it's gone then that's it for the month. I try to avoid the odd wine :jaja-no:
