After trying Netflix for a month and not being that impressed, was thinking of giving Amazon Prime a go but.....

What service would the panel recommend ?

Have both. Use both to be fair to quite an extent. I find it pretty hit and miss but usually some old tat to watch. Couldn’t slide a fag paper between them.

Had Prime for the last 4 years, although initially it was just for the expedited delivery. That "Next Day Delivery" promise isn't always the case these days. "Order in the next 'x' hours for next day delivery" quite often turns into delivery for the day after that when you get to the checkout....even if it is "Fullfilled by Amazon".

The free film selection is patchy, some good movies plus a lot of 'B' rated stuff....and there's not that many to choose from. Movie rental prices are about the same as everywhere else, but we tend to rent movies through the Playstation Store as they seem to get the latest stuff earlier than Amazon.
Plenty of series to choose from - currently following Outlander and Vikings at the moment. Previously watched Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, Black Sails, The Man in the High Castle, Ripper Street and recently the Andy Murray documentary - Resurfacing.
Monthly cost is £7.99 but I think there's still the option to pay annually at a cheaper rate.

We have both and, as a result, we seldom use Sky. Indeed, in the New Year Sky is getting binned.

We’ve had Netflix since 2002 and, whilst it was very limited to begin with, it’s now very good. I find that Prime is not quite as good (but Mrs Plops prefers it) but the two do compliment each other so, if anything, it’s prolly better to have both. Also, the content for each is quite different from one country to the next; the US Netflix has way more content and I’ve found it to be extremely good so if you have a VPN then set it to America and then use your iPad or iPhone to AirPlay it across to your telly through Apple TV.

Weirdly, Netflix have written to me every year for the past five or six years regretfully informing me that they have to put the price up. I’ve been paying £5.99 a month through iTunes since day one.

To summarise, if you go have Netflix and Prime, there’s no real need for Sky anymore because the content between the two is more than enough to keep you entertained.

Asa minor side track, if you’re a football fan, you need Sky or BT but apparently not for much longer. Amazon, Google and now Apple are all looking for broadcasting rights for premier league matches. I wonder if Sky could be forced to either significantly reduce their prices or risk going out of business before too much longer...............

I somehow managed to post my thread before finishing writing it. Doh!

Sky is now seriously overpriced shite; we can get the same TV, broadband and phone package from the likes of Now! and TalkTalk for literally half the price.

I will never consider getting anything from the fucktards at TalkTalk what a totally incompetent company they are. I was with them for far to many years for broadband when there was no other option locally, and I had horrendous speed problems for years. Then thankfully fibre was installed in our street and I’m with Virgin.

We were with TalkTalk about 15 years ago and they were ok, but that’s all they were. One of my best mates is an IT consultant and he’s with Now and has no complaints so I think I might try them next. No cable here so Virgin not an option, although I hear they’re not the best either. Seems very much luck of the draw.

In fairness, Sky have always been very good with us but they’ve priced themselves out of the market.

The ONLY reason we have kept Sky is we use it when travelling

I’ve also got Sky TV which I’ve had since they started up many years ago. With a little input from Jaws I’ve now got it plumbed into the MH sat system so I can indulge when I’m away next year.

I think it is all down to what you want to watch, I'm not a big film watcher so a basic sky package suits me and also several programmes I watch are only available on Sky

If it wasn't for the sport coverage I would bin Sky.

Although there are some excellent Sky productions and the library of stuff to watch is very broad.

Amusingly we were given Love Actually as a free movie (we don't subscribe to movies) for Xmas...two days later it was shown on itv....

Doesn't answer the question john I'm afraid but there you go.

Wait until you decide to leave.
Why would I leave. It’s a good deal? I left and rejoined when we moved house some time back. No issues at all. They treat us well in the beautiful south.

Not in our experience... and we're just up t'road from you. I've never known a company be so difficult to leave. Admittedly this was several years ago, but the experience left a very sour taste and they've been known as "Verminmedia" in our household ever since.

Just another example of how Branson can turn a successful company into a complete f*ck-up.
