Before I start commiting all these MP3 files to disk, does anyone know if they ( the files ) have to be ID tagged, or can I just copy them on to the CD ?

what do you mean by 'tagged'? Also, before you do that think about the compression rate - not compressed enough and you don't gain much compared to WAVE/AIFF, to compressed and they sound metallic and horrible!

Copy to CD

If you just want to put them onto a CD for storage you don't need to do anything to them....A CD will store a file in exactly the same way as a hard drive does (It does use a different method but that wont affect the file itself).

The only difference that is worth worrying about is if you use a CDR instead of a CDRW as they are read only.

You don't need to tag them but you can if you want to but just make sure you do it before you copy them over...once they are on the CDR you wont be able to change them.

If you use a CDRW and windows XP, you can use a CDRW in exactly the same way you would use another hard disk..

If you have any other Q, PM me

Cheers

Cheers for the answers guys.. but you have not actually answered the question :p
I want to be able to play the disk on a CD/MP3 player.. Therefore what I need to know is would yer aktchool average CD/MP3 player recognise the raw files or should they be saved with M3 IdTags ?

Copying, manipulating, editing chopping burning etc etc is not a problem :p
Oh Pierre.. Using MP3 wih med compression which is reducing an hour long recording to about 23 meg.. It is only speaking, no music at all mate..

As to using XP Phil .. no thanks.. One step up from NT4.xx and 4 steps back from the rest of the world :p It might be considered old fashioned but I will stick to 98se until they sort out the miriad issues with XP ( I have just done 6 machines in a small office with XP Pro, using a Y2K server.. def NOT my favorite even though it is almost becoming industry standard now .. Gimme Novell 5.xx any day ! :}

MP3 need to be converted to CD audio tracks b4 burning to CD. This will allow playing on home/car CD player. Also only use CD-R, can not play CD-RW in Cd players. Something like Roxio Easy CD Creator, etc. etc. Hope that helps m8.

As long as you have an MP3 CD player............

...............you can just copy them across the your CDR. All the tags do is give you info displays on the LCD of your player or are used by some player's software to index the tracks in genre playlists. No tags - no info - no problem can't read it with ya ears anyway :dunno:

Take it you've got the software, John. Nero 6 is good - it lets you convert from MP3 to CDA automatically.

Let me know if you neeed a copy.
