All depends on the Assessor, at the end of the day it is the insurance company that are paying his wages, he is just there to see if the bike can be economically repaired. what is possible to happen is they will write the bike off
and deduct so much from the payout as scrap value then let you dispose of the bike, this can sometimes work in your favour if the salvageable parts are worth more than the difference in what they are offering, if the value is less then tell them you don't want the scrap, one piece of advise though Blu, never accept their first offer.

Good luck mate.

had the assessor

out last week to look at Neils bike and was anxious that he would suggest getting it repaired as we wanted it written off.---Apparently they are given 15 visits a day on average and have a max of about 10mins to look at vehicle.
Done a quick tick list and missed the fact that the frame was gone until he had a torch out to look for VIN No. Said --aye it will definitely hae to go noo and then said christ I need to go i'm running late.
That is my experience of an assessor, Morag.

Is a lunp
blu show him every recipt you have, give me photocopies of what the bike is worth, give photocopies of the pictures of how the bike looked before, present him with every thing and show him how it was well looked after.

i did this when i had a bike nicked and got ?300 more than i payed for the bike after 13 months of owning it.

Blu, glad you are up and about a bit.

Seems like everyone has had slightly differing experiences with assessors..............me too!

Chap who checked out my Hornet 900 went back and recorded it as a Hornet 600 so I was offered the value of a second hand 600. When I challenged them and they realised their mistake, they had to travel back to the garage to see if the bike WAS a 900.

I'd done a few mods but nothing that affected performance. However, as I had not informed my insurance company of the mods, (renthal bars, mini indicators, rack, crash mushrooms, new seat and so on) I was again only offered the value of a second hand (private sale) Hornet 900.

I was in hospital and so couldn't get to the garage to change the bits back to original.

If I was in the same situation again and I COULD change the bike back to standard, I would do, and sell the mods off privately...or fit them to my new bike.

Good luck.

Nothing planned at the moment Blu cus I've got a course coming up which means I won't be on shift work ......so I'll only have the weekends free and not sure if other half would be chuffed with me scooting off. However, if I wake up one morning and think 'firk it's lovely out', I'll give you a bell.

Are you fit enough to ride already?
